cactusjack Report post Posted November 13, 2015 I have heard good things about it. I'm not in the market because I have a 6x45. It looks like a lot of guys base their initial load off of the 6x45.

MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted November 16, 2015 OK jack so if you were going to buy a complete ar stock base .556 gun to play with before converting what should you buy? What's a good base gun with good solid lower to build off of? 1000.00 price or so.

cactusjack Report post Posted November 16, 2015 OK jack so if you were going to buy a complete ar stock base .556 gun to play with before converting what should you buy? What's a good base gun with good solid lower to build off of? 1000.00 price or so. There are a couple of ways I would go. First route. Start from scratch, and buy or borrow all the AR specific tools, with a stripped lower and upper. I have done this and it isn't that bad. I ended up with a Frankenstein gun that I would have a hard time selling if I ever wanted to. I have 3 or 4 like this. There is a learning curve in building and finding the parts that run just how you want it to. If it doesn't run well, you have to figure it out. Second route. LMT, Lewis Machine and Tool, sells their uppers and lowers separately. Together I think you can get them for around 1000.00 doll hairs. They are really well made, and respected. This is what I done for my family and friends that want an AR but are not interested in being builders. Third route. A combo of both. Buy the LMT lower and upper, shoot the heck out of it. Either buy a new barrel and swap it out, or build an additional upper followed by an additional lower. Seeing it sitting in the safe all lonely makes you sad. Then you say, "hey a suppressor sounds fun, maybe just one of those" followed by 20 more. ..... The addiction has begun.
MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted November 16, 2015 Ya I kind of did this somewhat, I have the tools to do the work. I have had 3 or 4 guns total so far but sold everything to build my own and now find exactly what you say, I don't know what works together. I have a full Wyndham lower but its a turd. I will look at lmt, thanks. How do you feel about rock river?
