scoutm Report post Posted July 12, 2007 I had this sent to me by a family member who has close friends in Australia and thought you might like to see what could happen here if the dems take complete control. Australian Gun Law Update Here's a thought to warm some of your hearts... From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down Under. It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in: Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent, Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent ; Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)! In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. (Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!) While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed. There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly, while the resident is at home. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in "successfully ridding Australian society of guns." You won't see this on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the State Assembly disseminating this information. The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens. Take note Americans, before it's too late! FORWARD TO EVERYONE ON YOUR EMAIL LIST. [ I DID ] DON'T BE A MEMBER OF THE SILENT MAJORITY. BE ONE OF THE VOCAL MINORITY WHO WON'T LET THIS HAPPEN IN THE U.S.A

KGAINES Report post Posted July 13, 2007 I don't have any I sold them all . WE ALL HAVE TO FIGHT FOR OUR RIGHT TO OWN GUNS. We also have to remember that figures can lie and liars can figure, so for every article for there is one against and there are figures to back up each one. One difference for us is the constitution, we have the right to own guns and we just need to maintain that right, it has been that was for over two hundred years and it needs to be that way forever. az4life Report post Posted July 13, 2007 That ban actually went into effect in 1997. The figures quoted are correct though and for 1999 they got even worse. I'd assume they have not improved but did not research it further. Here is a link to another story from 2001 on the ban effects. http://www.newsmax.com/articles/?a=2000/6/26/12629
Brad Report post Posted July 20, 2007 I think it is called the 2nd amendment Yes, but when the 2nd amendment has failed us time after time with murder, maybe its time change it like many amendments have been changed before. By the way I went studied goverment at ASU and the only reason that law was written, was to protect us from the British if we ever needed to again! I think we are safe now. NO MORE GUNS. You should have taken your studying a little more serious. I respect that you have the right to your opinion but you're one bad apple that has fallen from the tree. This is twice I've responded to one of your replies, the two unborn fawns, and will not waste my time anymore. I'm usually a calm person but you have it a nerve. Hopefully no one else will give you the time of day. SEE YA!
