.270 Report post Posted November 17, 2015 Remember that as soon as the sun comes up and the shootin' starts, everything changes. Be less elk in the easy places and more elk in the rough places. Lark
GreyGhost85 Report post Posted November 17, 2015 Since the fire, the huge majority of elk spend all winter on top. That being said, we are now one nasty winter from the elk dropping back into the lower country during the late hunt, as the feed in the burns is less abundant every year as the new undergrowth is getting bigger and choking out a lot of the feed the was coming up in the burns. maybe this year is the year the elk drop off. i sure hope so. that hunt has been a slaughter since the burn and those elk need to drop into the lower, nasty country with less access to end the slaughter. most people are not willing to do what it takes to kill bulls once they drop off the rim
