AZGFD Special Meeting

Recommended Posts

Anyone see the notification for this? Says they are going to discuss a whistleblower case and possible budget changes. I probably can't watch, can anyone else update us on what is addressed? Not trying to stir the pot, just want to know what's brewing.

Commission to hold telephonic meeting Oct. 27 in Phoenix

Oct. 26, 2015

The Arizona Game and Fish Commission will hold a telephonic meeting tomorrow (Tuesday, Oct. 27) at the Arizona Game and Fish Department, 5000 W. Carefree Highway, Phoenix.

The meeting begins at 4 p.m. (see agenda).

The commission will:

  • Be asked to approve a Memorandum of Agreement with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and other parties for mitigating adverse effects to cultural resources at the Lee Valley Property in Apache County;
  • Consider approval that the environmental analyses conducted per the department’s Colorado River Slough Green Sunfish Removal Treatment Plan are sufficient to use rotenone for the removal of nonnative fish;
  • Consider a request for approval of proposed changes to the fiscal year 2017 commission-approved Game and Fish Fund budget request;
  • Consider and possibly take a position on an allegation in a whistleblower letter to the governor.

Members of the public may attend the meeting in person or view it via webcast at www.azgfd.gov/commissioncam. People who wish to speak to the commission must attend in person and may submit a Blue Card (Speaker’s Card). The ability to speak to the commission for those viewing the webcast is not available.

The commission will either attend in person or by telephone conference call.

The Arizona Game and Fish Commission is the policy-setting board overseeing the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Since its inception in 1929, the commission has served the interests of science-driven wildlife conservation for more than eight decades.

From reading the full agenda the whistle blower item is related to the case of Wildlife Manager Shawn Wagner's case against the state. For those who don't remember Shaw Wagner was an AZGFD employee who shot a bull on an archery hunt (legally) and then left his tag with another AZGFD employee to put on the bull after he left camp. The subsequent investigation was fumbled by AZGFD and he sued them and was awarded some compensation (ROM $100,000).

Should be interesting to see what else might be developing. BoneColletor777 should be all over this.

Word on the street is this is a whistleblower against the Commission who is not enforcing a state law. State law is if a state employee is found guilty of reprisal those individuals shall no longer work for the State. Director Voyles was found guilty of reprisal but the Commission has not fired him thus the whistleblower to the Governor.

Ooh, this is getting juicy. Thing is I don't have anything against him or the department. But I do think we should all be paying attention to what's going on and I am highly suspicious of the timing of the notification for a special meeting. Not sure this would meet AZ's definition of an open meeting.

I guess if I played by AZG&F rules I could hunt all week for a good bull but when I have to work on the weekend I could give my tag to my brother to put on that bull I was chasing all week if he happens to get a shot on him while he is hunting for his own bull. What a deal. What does AZG&F call this ? I call it POACHING !

Not only did he leave his tag with the other azgfd guys he was hunting with, one of those azgfd guys shot the bull while still alive and put shawns tag on it claiming Shawn killed it. Wish this was going to get Shawn in trouble but sounds more like his boss is getting in trouble for standing idly by. Maybe he will learn his lesson to not let his wardens do whatever they please. Either way I'm glad someone is answering for what happened.

What's the law regarding how long in advance they have to let the public know about the meeting? Like you said seems strange they are giving close to 24 hours notice before a meeting like this. I'd of liked to gone down and seen what it was all about.
