Hoss50 Report post Posted October 17, 2015 When I shoot the barrel out of my 257 weatherby I might rebarrel it to 6.5x257 weatherby. I might build the 6.5-06 ackley for one of my kids too. I like wildcats too and 6.5 is great bullet. I will stay tuned to your variant of the 6.5 you are after.

PRDATR Report post Posted October 18, 2015 Makes no sense. 270 and 30.06 are the same case.
lancetkenyon Report post Posted October 18, 2015 Not exactly. Base to shoulder, body taper, base diameter, yes. .270 has a longer overall case length (.050"), slightly longer length to start of neck (.050" due to necking down the parent case further to .277" to start), and longer neck for bullet purchase. Forming it to Ackley will increase the base to shoulder length by about .100" over a .30-06 Ackley case and you will gain a minute amount of less body taper too. Every little bit of case capacity helps in the hot rod race. A win by a nose is still a win. Plus, longer neck might mean very slightly inherent accuracy. Again, even .001" in accuracy is still a win. It will be cool to see how this turns out.
