Ethicsovereverything Report post Posted October 14, 2015 I am newish to hunting Couse Whitetail and I have had no luck. I hate to be that guy but I am reaching out for help. I have gone out the last 3 seasons and have only seen 2 bucks. I have used the forums to try and help me and it has greatly helped, but I took the plunge to becoming a member. I am not asking for a honey hole just some help to get me going in the right direction. I wanted to hunt up on Mt. Lemmon this year around Spencers Camp ground. If anyone has any input please let me know because I am willing to learn.
gotcoues Report post Posted October 14, 2015 IMO opinion your hunting to high of elevation for that time of year. I'm not saying you won't find a buck up there, but I would start my efforts in December much lower. If you plan on glassing, elevations around 5000 feet tend to have the highest concentration of deer and are also much easier to glass for a beginner. During the general hunts, the control road gets pounded pretty hard, but should be a great place in December. There are a MASSIVE amount of does around 5000' around the control road all year, it should be pretty easy to find a buck if there is any pre-rut/rut is going on in Dec. Good luck, but I think your on the wrong track at 7-8000 feet.

mattys281 Report post Posted October 15, 2015 Most people, especially new hunters, get discouraged too easily and give up on an area too soon. Find yourself a nice saddle that has some good trails running through it and thick cover on the north side. Settle in and stick around for 3-4 days and see what turns up. Deer move around a lot in az, especially during the rut, so they will not be in any one spot every single day. You just have to wait it out. The best skill you can develop is patience and the sooner the better. Good luck!
duarte64 Report post Posted October 16, 2015 Patience and glassing is key. Look for springs, tuck yourself about 1000 yds from the water and glass, for hrs and you'll be surprised what you see. These guys where about 600 yds and didn't see them til one moved, about an hour of glassing.

Ethicsovereverything Report post Posted October 16, 2015 I will most definetly be patient. I have. Spotting scope and a good pair of binoculars both with tripods. So if I should go lower around 5000 feet should I change my spot? Is the front side of mt Lemmon going to work?
