dsotm Report post Posted October 12, 2015 Buddy shot a small antlerless male this weekend, just wondering how old they start growing antlers
lancetkenyon Report post Posted October 12, 2015 Usually as a yearling (1.5 years), they can be spikes. The tag is an "Antlerless" tag, not a cow tag, so he is legal. Going to be some amazing eating!!!
GreyGhost85 Report post Posted October 12, 2015 The following spring AFTER their birth they will start growing antlers. Calves are born in the summer, so they are around a year old before they start growing. If an antlerless male was shot, it would indicate that he was born this summer. Probably only about 4-6 months old i would guess
lancetkenyon Report post Posted October 12, 2015 Should have clarified yearling as 1.5 years old, not a calf still @ 6 months. Good clarification GreyGhost85.
