What age do elk grow antlers?

Recommended Posts

Usually as a yearling (1.5 years), they can be spikes.

The tag is an "Antlerless" tag, not a cow tag, so he is legal. Going to be some amazing eating!!!

The following spring AFTER their birth they will start growing antlers. Calves are born in the summer, so they are around a year old before they start growing. If an antlerless male was shot, it would indicate that he was born this summer. Probably only about 4-6 months old i would guess

Should have clarified yearling as 1.5 years old, not a calf still @ 6 months. Good clarification GreyGhost85.

He didn't have spots but still quite small, should be tender!
