Boiling heads

Recommended Posts

Another successful youth javalina hunt. I might have asked this question last year. I got the head as clean as possible. Just a little tissue, gums, and brain left. Last year I got a slow rolling boil with a little bit of dawn for two hours. Pulled em out, scrapped off gunk, cleaned nasal cavities, and scrambled brains. Boiled again for another two hours and they cleaned up nice, but I had to put all the teeth back in and the scull seemed pretty thin. Ho do all you guys do it?

After you boil and wash, be sure to soak in water with a bunch of original Dawn dish detergent for about a day. Then move onto the peroxide bath.

After you boil no wash, be sure to soak in water with a bunch of original Dawn dish detergent for about a day. Then move onto the peroxide bath.

it pulls the oils out. Also adding baking soda to the simmer will case any meat/connecting tissue to gel that practically falls off

Simmer, don't boil. It takes longer but the teeth won't fall out. Put em on the outdoor stove, add some dishwashing soap, some 20 mule team, start doing all those honey do's that keep keep you in the field. Dump out all that grease after a couple hours and then simmer it again for a few more. Do some more honey do's. Put it in a five gallon bucket and take it to the car wash, if you do loose some teeth the bucket catches them. Dry it in the sun for a few days and then spray it with Krylon gloss white. If it has antlers tape them off.

Boiling can cause the skull to separate at the growth plates, all the teeth to fall out etc.
