Do you use shooting sticks?

Recommended Posts

I just did a little investigating and it appears that Primos is the brand offering the Safari Sticks, but they are calling it them the "Polecat".

I also wanted to mention that the pic I posted shows velcro, but the one I have and what is now available uses a piece of chord to perform the function instead of velcro. The chord is silent and velcro is not. the usable height can be from about 15" to about 3 feet or so.

A rest and a device to pull back a compound bow are two completely different things.

how do you figure? if a kid can't make an ethical shot without the aid of one of those, it's time to get that kid back to the range until he is confident in making a good shot on an animal. I myself am a HUGE advocate of getting kids out there and hunting and i volunteer a lot of time to take kids on their first hunt and love every minute of it, but do not condone the use of those things. they are a tool for the lazy and unconfident.

I support the firearm rest, not the draw device. If a kid can shoot a bow at the legal draw weight, that is great, he/she should go for it. If they cannot draw the bow back themselves, it isn't time to be an archery hunter.

but do not condone the use of those things. they are a tool for the lazy and unconfident.

I know your an accomplished hunter, who grew up in a hunting family, it all probably has come more natural to you than you realize. This quoted statement is where I disagree. Not everyone has your or my ability to hold a rifle steady, whether it's genetics, age, trauma, etc.

It's my firm belief a person deserves to hunt regardless of how well they steady their firearm, and I feel the animal deserves one shot in the vitals by the unsteady.

If you have read my posts in the past, you should know I am one of the biggest advocates for shooting practice. My point is not to say 'a claw' should take the place of practice, but that it shouldn't be outlawed for those who need some help.

SNAFU

My bipods used to be illegal, now they're simply undocumented.

Posted it before, and I'll post it again. We use numerous options depending on the situation. I would rather use multiple shooting aids and get a good rest and clean one shot kill than be macho and shoot offhand only to have a less than good shot on game. I have shot game offhand numerous times, actually more often than not, but if I have time, why would I not set up and have a rock solid rest? And even the Triclawps on a tripod requires some shooter input.

Free standing bipod/shooting sticks (what Taylor used at 160 yards for her elk last year) Tell me that smile is not worth using a shooting aid.

I'm so good I just free hand shoot everything. Who needs a bipod or tripod. Out past 1000 yards my groups open up a bit but anything closer than that I don't have time to waste setting up sticks.

So you dislike a tool because it helps kids harvest game and then their dad brags about them? That takes the Delta Bravo award for this year.

Out of curiosity, have you used a claw or triclawpse? Cause with mine on my tripod you sure as crap can't just lock it down and pull the trigger.

Wow jackass l, listen a little bit before you go spouting yoir BS. Of course i have not used one, that would make my post invalid. It's a little more than "helping" a kid and you know it. You put ome of those those things on a HEAVY DUTY tripod and head and they are a dam robotic arm on the rifle and you know it. Another idiot trying to corner someone that has an opinion that differs from the majority. Do your research before starting the namecalling right off the bat.
