I no longer remember my office # @ Luke AFB Weather Det., am no longer a NWS storm watcher, AMS wants too much to reinstate me as an associate.... But I'm 110% certain I watched a tornado in its dying state today in Maricopa County. Hunting related? Edge Report post Posted October 7, 2015 Some weather people are calling these "Gustnado's"Must be a new term. A decade as a DOD weatherhead and another decade free lancing weather data/upper wind obs and climate studies. First heard the term with the vortex that hit my buddies place about 6 weeks ago in Lichfield Park. Heard a lot of news stations calling that a funnel cloud, wrong. If the NWS is anything like the DOD, duty forecasters are punished if a tornado watch wasn't published before hand. Punishment could be what's called a bust review where you have to go back and study the data in order to understand why the weather phenomena occurred.
