Green Bullet Report post Posted October 5, 2015 well just got back from hunting turkey in 6a. We left around noon on Thursday and came back around 11am on Sunday. we camped off the 229 road. i hunted all around that area..... no luck for me this year on birds but on the last day i found the tank the birds were using. i saw an old guy on that tank friday night and he told me he was going to hunt there the next day so i never went up to the water and checked for sign. he told me "couple of tracks...nothing speciial"...yeah right....when i hit checked it on the way home sunday there were a shitload of tracks. i think a couple birds were taken there over the weekend. anyway, no biggie...it was a glorified camping trip with a shotgun in my hand anyway..... on a related topic, saw 10 antelope up there with two nice shooters. Also saw a dozen or so muleys...no bucks. What surprised me the most is that i didn't see a single elk. usually it's pretty easy to spot them late at night or early am (at least spook some cows right????). On this trip nada, zip, nothing. not that i was actively pursuing elk but still you should see something...On Thursday night i heard a few distant bugles but nothing like i used to experience in that area. As soon as people started showing up and road hunting that shut down Friday onward. i saw some elk sign l but nothing real fresh or heavy....not sure where they all bailed to. one guy thought they may have moved to the wallow fire area as that's where G&F is putting fresh grass seed. with that said, i did see game and fish pulling this guy out. they believed it was a wounded bull during archery...that's a real solid bull for 6a. whoever lost this guy must be crying still.... if anyone is going back up to chase birds this week send me a pm and i'll tell you where that tank was. time to start mentally preparing for my 12E muzzleloader hunt. heading up to scout on 10/16 and then 4 days before the hunt as well. cheers, miles
