NWElkHunter Report post Posted July 3, 2007 First time to this site, some friends on monstermuleys.com recommended it. I drew a Burro Mountain muzzy MULE DEER hunt and am tapping any resource I can to get some early info on this area. I'm coming down for WA so I have to say I have no experience in this area but knew it would be a quality tag if I could pull it - I can't tell you how excited I am as this will be my first hunt in NM! I know this is a coues site but I figure a few of you guys see a muley or two in passing and it looks like there are a few that now the Burros pretty well. I would appreciate any help I could get as I plan to put some serious time into this tag. I'm waiting for the area biologist to get back into town and have spoke with a dozen or so guys with passing knowledge of the area but I'm always looking for more... CouesSlayer Report post Posted July 3, 2007 Wow what a hunt to draw dude! There are plenty of Mulies in there trust me They are a heck of a lot easier to find than the coues and there are some monsters! They are pretty well distributed but to find THE one you'll need to scout it either in person or have a friend do it. You should check out the other topic in this forum "gila wilderness hunting" and there's a lot more guys here that know more than me that will point you in the right direction for sure Congrats on the tag and GOOD LUCK on your hunt. NWElkHunter Report post Posted July 3, 2007 I've sent some email back and forth with Tommy from Gila Wilderness and probably will use his services but its July right now and I'm excited and can't wait for the end of October - I want to do something with this hunt now! You know, Google earth, quad maps, talk with guys who have their opinions on where they would hunt, etc. Any of you guys out there that are familiar with this area care to point me in a direction? Email works great instead of posting also... I'm making a looong trip down and want to find something special, because I may fly I have been thinking of making this more of a backpack hunt or is this not necessary in the area? I don't know what access it like, all public - some private? How are the roads - a bunch or very few, good shape or really rough? North end or far south end? Just anxious to start working on it right now!!!
