So I found a big ole bear in an area I've never seen them while elk hunting, glassed him up, and watched him move for quite awhile, then bed up and later get up and keep moving. Is there any chance I might find this bear in the same area come next week? Or is he long gone?

I think the answer to that would tend to be yes however, I have picked up a good number of bears on some of my cameras who either have never come back or rarely show up. In my experience the answer to your question depends more on wether or not there is food/shelter and/or water in the area- mainly food.

In the case of the bear in my avatar I found it VERY interesting that (in the particular area I shot him) only one other bear would stick around. A lot of wanders would pass by due to a water source near by but the only time another bear popped up is if this one wasn't around for 2-3 days at a time. I am sure it was a territory thing. I am by no means an expert though- just my observations.

this time of year bears are trying to gain weight, and could be fairly close to where they want to den up. as it gets colder they'll start building a bed and stuff and hang around close to their den until the daylight hours get short enough that they hole up for the winter. right now, food is the thing to look for. find a place where you can see a lot of country where there is a lotta food and glass the heck out of it. As most of you have seen there are a number of successful bear hunting techniques. Find a method that works for you and hunt hard. I'm a glasser at heart, but over the past couple of years I've added calling to my list of tricks. To be honest, I hate calling! I only use the technique, because it works! I love bear hunting and I'm willing to try all techniques to get a bear. That's why I've added calling. I don't call at every spot or every day, but if the spot has the right set up I will usually call after I'm done glassing.

Bear hunting can be a lot of fun, but it can also be very very frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
