Redman Report post Posted June 29, 2007 Anybody know of a landowner tag for sale in unit 23 (mule deer)? Long story short a friend and I put in on the same app he got drawn I did not..... I was not drawn due to non-payment (I was on his credit card but I guess we did not check a box to aurthorize my charge)... I'd like to see how much one is... Thanks Redman
jamaro Report post Posted June 29, 2007 There aren't really tags... You just pay a landowner trespass fee and you can only hunt that landowners land... You will need to knock on doors or find a connection....
COOSEFAN Report post Posted June 29, 2007 I've never tried to buy Muley Landowner tag, so I don't know much about em', but if they are the same as Elk, than there are "Unit Wide" Landowner tags as well as "Ranch Only" landowner tags. Call G+F over there, and I believe you can get a printout of all the landowners who recieve tags.......then sit down and start calling! I think that 23 tag may be a hard one or expensive one to buy......most outfitters over there already have landowners on contracts to sell them all their tags, so you may also want to call some of the Outfitters, they may sell you one or let you buy one from one of their landowners? Best of luck to ya, JIM>
Kevin Report post Posted June 29, 2007 Jim, you didn't read Jamaro's post? There are no landowner tags for deer, only antelope and elk. All you have to have is documentation from the ranch owner, usually for a fee, that you take to a license vendor and buy the tag. Any landowner can sell as many or as few authorizations as they want. It is not regulated at all by G&F. Like J said, you can only hunt that landowners private land, not the public land. You're right about the outfitter thing though, permission may be hard to come by since many of the landowners lease their hunting rights to outfitters who then sell the tresspass right. Kevin NOPE......I'm a dummy........I read it but didn't understand it the way that I do now! I don't mess with the Muleys much over there in NM, but I always thought it was the same as Elk and Antelope Thanks Kevin for catchin' me on that, and settin' it straight

CouesSlayer Report post Posted June 30, 2007 So what if you drew a tag somewhere else, can a landowner still give you permission to hunt on their ranch?
Kevin Report post Posted July 1, 2007 Jim, I figure you'd do the same for anybody on this site! CouesSlayer, yeah, with written permission you could hunt the private land, as well as public, if it is in the unit your tag is in. If you mean if you drew, say unit 24, and had permission for someones ranch in 23--then no; not unless you forfeit the public tag. Clear as mud? Redman- don't give up so easy. Some of the ranchers in the Mule creek area may give you permission to hunt their land. It might cost a little but you never know. May still be worth checking out. However, ain't nothing wrong with being the camp biotch! You'll likely have as much fun and spend the license fee on wine, women, or song! Kevin
CouesSlayer Report post Posted July 1, 2007 Kev- Much obliged
Webber Report post Posted July 1, 2007 Hey, Redman Kevin is right there is a alot of private land in mule creek. You might have to pay a little bit but some pretty good muleys are in there if you can get a tag.
CouesSlayer Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Wait one more question- Do you forfeit the tag when you get the landowner's permission for the permit?
Kevin Report post Posted July 5, 2007 Wait one more question- Do you forfeit the tag when you get the landowner's permission for the permit? Not if it is in the same unit that you drew. Then you could hunt both the private land you have permission for and the public land. (Assuming the private land is within the unit you drew). Kevin
