buckmaster21 Report post Posted September 19, 2015 4x4 helps but I had a 325cc and it was 2 wheel drive and it went any were my dad 4x4 went just had to give it a little more gas
deercrazy Report post Posted September 19, 2015 IMO a 500 atv is more than enough power to get you where you want to go. Sure there are more powerfull machines, that drink more gas, get you into bigger trouble faster, and cost that much more to fix. A nice clean used 500cc four wheeler is all that is needed. joe hunter Report post Posted September 19, 2015 Do yourself a favor and get one with 4 wheel drive. Hard to beat a Honda 4x4 ATV.
Elkaddict Report post Posted September 19, 2015 With it seems everyone going to side by sides you should be able to get a nice used 500cc quad for a pretty good price. Probably don't need 4 wheel drive but when you do, you do.
MogollonMan Report post Posted September 19, 2015 I've had ATVs with and without 4wd, both utility and sport ATVs as well. It is a nice feature, but I have never found a situation that my 2wd couldn't handle.
Big Tub Report post Posted September 19, 2015 4WD is a must unless you want to stay on maintained roads.

DesertBull Report post Posted September 19, 2015 I've had a 2wd 350 Polaris for 13 years and it takes me anywhere I want to go. Get good tires.
Coues79 Report post Posted September 19, 2015 If you ever found yourself in a situation where you needed four wheel drive, and you didn't have it, would you be upset you didn't go with 4 wheel drive when you bought it? I'd go with it. Just my opinion
Big Tub Report post Posted September 19, 2015 I can switch between 2WD and 4WD and have had to turn 4WD on many trips. Switchable is best for sure.
Red Rabbit Report post Posted September 19, 2015 Snow? think 4wd. Something about cruising on fresh snow in the forest.
elkaholic Report post Posted September 19, 2015 I picked up a used Honda 350 foreman 06 AWD for less than 3000 runs great and is a powerhouse in steep nasty terrain- first I've ever owned and most likely will never need another - the 600- 750's might get there faster on flat lands but I'm wasn't looking for speed machine sometimes --- the bigger the beast - the harder to handle and if things go wrong - you can get hurt pretty bad - very easily be safe out there defiantly a lot of fun just cruising around the backwoods and in places I'd rather not tear up my truck
rcdinaz Report post Posted September 19, 2015 We have 2 250's and don't have problems. Just pick me up if you need to. Where are you guys going that you need a big 4x4? Not bashing just curious, I do get it in the snow.
elkaholic Report post Posted September 19, 2015 really - where do you need a 4x4 ? this is Arizona !! not Iowa I been up and down - some steep - rocky - side of a hill- in wet - muddy conditions or piles of loose sharp rocky crap that no 2 wheel drive would make - if you did attempt in a 2 wheel drive -- the last thing I"d want is to loose traction and slip slid around in a dangerous spot or get 1/2 way up or down and not make it -- in most places - you do not need to depend on 4x4 but in a lot of conditions --- you'd be dang glad you had it!
