Bass fishing for a beginner...

Recommended Posts

I can't believe no one has said throw a senko probably the easiest bait to use.

good point....I think it's not cool anymore. Either that or split rings/rubber bands are in short supply....WACKY

Without knowing where the OP is fishing, I put a 2nd on a rig I know works everywhere, the drop shot.

I used to be a huge senko advocate, I spent way too much time in the Yamamoto store that used to be open in Tempe.

But, the last few years, the senko works great in my river and pond fisheries but not so much in the reservoirs. JMO, they aren't what they used to be.

think about water size... if just hittin some ponds around town go light weight... 6-8lb test ,spin cast or spinning reel is fine... use a fluorocarbon line for senkos and soft jerk baits (mono sucks and will just make jerk bait hover around the top when you put the twitches to it). they weigh enough so just hook em up weedless with no weight,a 2/0 hook and a 4" senko.... toss it in and keep an eye on your line for any twitch, sideways..... certain times of year you can't beat a senko......something about tossin it in and lettin it sink.. and let it sit for a couple minutes before you start retrieving it. I can't tell you how many fish I've caught after a backlash or whatever. sometimes it's subtle sometimes they whack it. a light weight texas rigged worm works well too.

match the water your fishing...pole, line, bait, size.

most important is POST PICTURES!
