muledeerarea33? Report post Posted September 14, 2015 I wear one pair of boots all year long. Work, home, hunting, the walmart, frys, foot doctor appointments (broke a bunch of bones in my foot) but I wear 1 pair and that's it. Red wings. Almost 300 bucks, middle road boots compared to the rest on this forum but it's all I wear ever and no feet issues. I wore sneakers/ tennis shoes once a few years back and fractured my ancke!! Lol 15 years with redwing now, a new pair every year or so and that's it.
AZLance Report post Posted September 14, 2015 I was a die-hard Lowas fan for many years. Can't buy a much better boot, used to get 1000 miles out of each pair of boots. BUT now I tried a new Crispi boot, and am in love! Wonderful boots that are almost broke in when you get them...very comfortable and much lighter than the Lowas. Now let just see if they hold up as long as my Lowas. I got 200 miles on them now...800 more to go.
Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted September 14, 2015 Lance... does Lowa or Crispi make a taller boot? Say... 9." or 10"?? I have found that the Kenetreks come out of the box ready to hunt in... they fit my feet like no other. Had a chronic ankle issue and that was why I bought my first pair and my ankle actually healed while I was busting the hills in them, there is that much support while still some ability to feel the ground under your feet... The first set of soles where out in a year the way I use them but now you can get a better sole for when you sent them up there and then they are bullet proof! I am 99% sure I will stay with Kenetrek but I am liking the input guys. Thank You!

AZLance Report post Posted September 14, 2015 http://www.lowaboots.com/catalog/hunting/ The Uplander and Hunter GTX are both tall 9-10" boots Keep in mind that Lowas take 40 miles to break in...that might not work well with a bum ankle

Norteno Report post Posted September 14, 2015 I'm glad this topic came up. Anyone tried the Ariat Grand Junction GTX 6"? I'm trying to find a place that has them in town to try on.
nighthawk Report post Posted September 14, 2015 I've been rocking the Irish setter elk hunter and they are solid! Great sole held up good so far the last 3 years busting threw Coues country. Work boots Ariat hands down. Red wings, Justin, many others only last 6months. The Ariat are crazy good makes me wonder bout those norteno posted ?!? Ken trek also dream of mine but a big price tag comes with it. I will say your feet are your life so I will not wear cheap boots!
rageinthesage Report post Posted September 14, 2015 Great topic for sure. Being that I can't afford much of the brands listed I'm currently using the Keen Targhee II and love them. Breathable, lightweight, and good ankle protection, they just have a real crappy sole. Still a little pricey but not four bill$ pricey.
W.O.T Report post Posted September 14, 2015 Which Crispi boot do you like?
Arrowsniper Report post Posted September 14, 2015 Love my Redwings.(aka Irish Setter) (year 4 now). I bought Pronghorns last year, because I was hearing "pronghorn" a lot. Man what a disappointment. I'll be selling those soon.
Richie Report post Posted September 14, 2015 For the ariat boots I would give shoppers supply a call in Chandler. They carry a lot of the ariat brand you don't see other places.
Heat Report post Posted September 14, 2015 I'm currently using Zamberlans and they fit great, but can't stand most boots with an adhesive bound sole. The adhesive in the seam between the rubber and the leather always gives up way before the tread or the leather upper. Getting a few more miles out of my current pair after some shoe goo but kinda getting sick of buying new boots every other year. I too am in the market for some new boots. I wish Redwing or Justin made a good Made In USA hunting boot. I might try some Chippewas with the lug sole. I really like the ones I have with the Vibram utility sole. I usually prefer a one piece, full grain leather upper with no gore tex or other waterproof lining for hunting in AZ. With regular Obenaufs treatment and some good wool socks my feet never get wet or cold. Finding models with no waterproof lining is getting harder though. rossislider Report post Posted September 15, 2015 Sort of a random question, but does anyone know if any of these higher end boot companies will allow you to order right and left boots in two different sizes? My right foot is size 11.5 and the left is about 8.5. Normally I just go with two shoes in the larger size and don't notice. Last time I strapped 80 lbs on my back to pack an deer out I really noticed the left foot sliding around.

I have a pair of Zamberlands also and they are awesome well made boots. That being said the toe box is not quite perfect for me but they are much better for carrying a heavy pack. I also agree that 90% of the time the gore-tex is a waste and just makes your foot sweat. I probably went through a dozen high end boots over 5-6 years before finding the Asolo fit my foot best. I still want to try the Crispi boots because they are made on a European last and should fit better. I also want a pair of Ahnu for light hiking. I bought my daughter a pair and she loves them and they weigh nothing. Get what fits not just the name you like best. I take constant crap from one of my buddies for wearing tree hugger boots from REI. I keep telling him those hiking dorks really know their stuff when it comes to boots and you can return anything. Plus the look on some of their faces when I tell them I am hunting is priceless. Someone has to fill those little bags of jerky they sell.
