Northwest Side?

Recommended Posts

Anyone having any luck on the northwest side of Phoenix this year? My normal spots out near Wickenburg are sucking it up over the last couple years. I thought this year with as much steady water as we had we would have a good year but that isn't the case. If anyone has any recommendations it would be greatly appreciated.

I love to hunt dove but I could only net 2 birds yesterday, and that wasn't from missing many opportunities. I need to change something up.

I am not looking for any special spots or anything like that, maybe just an area that has been producing decent numbers so I can try and scout out some locations to look at.

My area used to be pretty good normally and some years it was fantastic, but it hasn't been that great of the last 5 years or so. Opening Saturday usually tends to be ok, but after that it is pretty dismal.

I know it's hard, but sometimes the best way to find new Dove spots is to drive around during prime time looking for flights of Dove. This is how you should be scouting for Dove as well. I have a really large loop around various towns looking for Dove flying. Once I find Dove I zero in on where they are going and where they came from. This really helps in finding great morning and evening spots. I bet you will find better Dove hunting within 5 miles of your normal area. With all the rain and development hot spots can change year to year. Scouting is the key!

That is how I used to find places to hunt. I would be looking all summer and would even go to places on the weekends and sit and wait for it to get light and then stay for an hour or so. I burnt a lot of gas but it usually paid out. I gave that advice to a co-worker a while back but he decided to go to his usual place just north of Florence and was very disappointed this past weekend as the birds just weren't there this year for him and his son. They only scored about five between them so he is going to have his work cutout for himself this weekend. He thinks it may partially be due to the abundance of water.

Best way to hunt dove is spread dog food and bird seed in your back yard, shoot through the kitchen window. The key is to live the window track so it doesn't make noise.

One of my hunting buddies in Whittman is going to do some scouting Thursday and Friday on his days off near them to see if he can dig up a few places.

Thanks for the help. I am going to get see if I can get some scouting in before 2nd season.
