Does anyone go out specifically targeting rabbits? Or are they mostly just a bonus target while out quail etc. hunting?

Found out theres been some cases of rabbit fever here in Dewey this summer so any I kill around the house I shouldn't handle.

Might have to venture out a bit.

I do. Usually around the house. They get so overpopulated if they're not thinned out where I'm at. Good table fare and dog food.

Where do you live? Would be willing to help you out with your rabbit problems :) My kids would certainly love it.

+1 on the hunting months with "R" for rabbit. We wait until October just to be extra safe.

The months that have an "R" thing doesn't really apply here. How hot is September compared to January? I've seen em covered in bugs and wormy with snow on the ground in the cold country. Also I've seen them clean with no fleas or worms in July in the desert. I've read a few papers from university extension programs from different states. They give pictures and signs to watch out for in a diseased rabbit such as organ spotting, sores etc.

Good info all. I may have to look into some of that research on what to look for. Just thought it would be a good way to put some lean meat on the menu.

My family loves rabbit hunting! I took my brother in law rabbit hunting for the first time a few months ago. He loved it! Rabbit hunting is always a great time!

for sure it's a good hunt for lean meat! Don't discount jacks, more meat and from my experience they tend to be healthier than cotton tail. Jack rabbit is a hare just like most all domestic meat rabbits.
