Hunterjohnny Report post Posted September 2, 2015 I bet you shot a quail and didn't find it on the hunt that your avatar is from.. When I grow up, I hope to be as perfect as you. +1 I've never wounded a dove in my life. Or missed a dove, because he's against that too. Now that's going too far! We are allowed to miss them...right?

hoghntr Report post Posted September 3, 2015 I have shot and wounded animals. I have killed animals I could not find. 33yrs of rifle, pistol, archery big game hunting equals many dissapointments and much suffering from buck fever. I think what we do after we realize we killed it and will not find it more defines us as what kind of Hunter we Are. So you go home or do you stay and fill the tag??? Good luck in the field and I pray I shoot straight this year. ☺

Pine Donkey Report post Posted September 3, 2015 I often talk to students about making sure the words they say, actually convey the message they want. I tell them that words are like bullets; once they are out, you can't pull them back, and you can't change their path. I'd say your words are a miss...might even be a wound!
mattys281 Report post Posted September 3, 2015 I guess I didn't choose my words well enough. I was referring to the guys that make a habit of missing game and shrug it off (which is clearly some of the people in this thread). I'll go sit in the corner and wait till duck and quail seasons open. Sorry to have offended the CWT coffee club. You're talking about 'poke and hope' hunters. The guys that know the target is well out of their effective range, but figure maybe luck will serve them? The guy that rump shoots because its better to come home with the story of a deer shot and lost then just the one they saw? Totally agree on that. Everybody has the right to make mistakes, and hopefully learn from them. The guys who will blaze away and shoot at anything are a different breed though. Right up there with road hunters who just drive til they see something then jump out and try to chase it down, which is hilarious to watch, but still sad. You just have to hope with a little time, maturity and guidance they'll settle down. And hopefully dont feed too many coyotes and crows in the meantime.

Big a big enough man to come back on here and admit the error of your ways and that you are now a fan of rump shots, when taken in the right context. Run along lad, you've got some homework. muledeerarea33? Report post Posted September 3, 2015 In 22 years of huntin years I've harvested about 15 deer. None hit that I couldn't find but have had total misses. About 4 years ago I looked for blood on a deer that I thought I had killed at 80yards. Rifle shot. I shot hiim (I thought?) then turned to watch the other 4 bucks for a buddy who had never hunted before. He didn't shoot so we walked to mine. No deer and no blood. 6 days later I had ruined his hunt looking for a deer I never hit but thought I should of. Misses happen just like mistakes. Try not to make the same one twice. muledeerarea33? Report post Posted September 3, 2015 I won't say he buried himself or jump on the band wagon of hate (as much as I love a good 20 pager!!) I don't know where it came from honestly? I've only seen one or two posts the past month of wounded animals and it seemed in each that the guys tried really hard to recover. I can understand where he's coming from. He may have never missed before or may just be sick of bad shots. Either or isn't a bad thing. We all strive for perfection!! But in reality it's bound to happen, misses, wounded stuff. Most folks get sick thinking of it.
