Toyota Tundra lift options

I currently own a 2014 Toyota Tundra crew max. I have been blessed to get the go ahead on installing some sort of lift. I am not looking to break the bank but I want a nice clean look and bigger tires. I would like some feedback from all CWT members who have a leveling kit or suspension (4" being the max height). I have inquired with Desert Rat regarding the Boss suspension which I guess Toyota uses to level their trucks. I guess it's as smooth as a stock ride, but it only raises it 3" and costs $1200+ labor, the leveling kit is a 4" but a rougher ride and quite a bit cheaper.

Any thoughts or pics of your rides would be helpful.

Better check if they fixed the steering rack problem on tundras by 2014. Starting around 2010 if you lifted the tundra at all it was a good chance you would blow out the steering rack. Even with an expensive lift.

why is the 4" cheaper than the 3" out of curiosity? 1200 labor sounds a little high. I just had 6" installed on a chevy and everyone in town was $750 labor but maybe a tundra is more labor intensive

From what I am told leveling kit is a spacer lift. So if u intend on wheeling your truck, you take the chance of blowing the shocks as they are overtraveled. It's a 2014 crewman she deserves a Quaility lift not budget lift! I know when I ever get the money I'll be going up on my 98 runner and plan on putting the coin into a good kit like Sanora steel lift. Just my 2cents

The 3" lift is $1200, plus $400 in labor. So around $1800. It has some new style beefy coil front springs along with other goodies.

 

The 4" leveling kit has just spacers (front and back) $480ish

 

Both costs include alignment

Also look into toytec lifts. Made specifically for toyotas. I have one on my 08 fj and it rides great

+1 for Toytec, call them up and talk to them, they can give you the run down based on what you like to do off-road or if it's about a lift for bigger stance.

I had a 3" on my 2011 and Desert Rat just did work on the steering box for $985. Traded it this morning at Hatch and got a 2015 and I don't think I will lift it at all.

Did you put the lift on or did it come with the truck? How many miles on it before the steering box? Was it normal driving /hunting conditions, for example see a road and wonder where it went or do did you really 4x with it?

With IFS type you should not go over 3". If you go too high you cannot get caster into spec and then your truck will wander all over the highway. Old Man Emu makes a nice middle of the road set up. Just bolt on and go. I had Old Man Emu on my FJ for over 115K and no issues.

I have a 2015 and had a 6 inch Rough Country lift installed, $1800 (total labor and parts installed). There is another part that is needed to align the carrier bearing this was $100

 

New tires and rims (lug nuts, tire pressure sensors) are needed with offset. This hurt the pocked book... more than he lift.

 

Truck drives really well like it was stock.

I just leveled my Tundra and went with 33" Toyo ATs. Love it.

 

My Tacoma has an old 3" Fabtech lift. Just had the front coilovers rebuilt with fox internals by a racing shop. Also put new CVs, new ball joints, new tie rods, etc. cost be some money but it's battle ready again. Truck has 300k miles on it and most parts were original.

It is on its 3rd steering rack though. Lifts definitely put a lot of stress on them by changing the angles. I'm sure for Tacomas and Tundras there are some after market options for steering racks that solve the problem.

Look at Truxx. Their out of Tucson and make leveling kits. Not sure what your looking to do but a 1.5" or 2" will let you bump up a tire size and not drag your bumper goin thru washed out roads. Any higher than than is just for looks. Depends on what your intentions are?
