jeffro Report post Posted August 29, 2015 223 on the receiver. From what I've read, the only mini 14 you cant shoot 556 in is the mini 14 target.
.270 Report post Posted August 30, 2015 Only difference between a .556 and a .223 is barrel twist. Cartridge is exactly the same specs. .556 nato has a faster twist to stabilize longer bullets. Any .223 bullet of any weight will shoot fine out of a .556. .556 weight bullets may not stabilize well out of a .223. Still shoots, just don't group well. Lark. The cartridges are not the same specs. I wont get into details as there is a plethora of information regarding the subject already out there. if your rifle is stamped as a .223 it is not safe to shoot 5.56 ammo out of it. I am sure people have shot 5.56 out of .223 but it is not safe and potentially dangerous. Basically the 5.56 design will exceed the saami specs of a .223 chamber quite a bit.
