billrquimby Report post Posted August 24, 2015 Sounds to me you legally can't take the head if the bull was killed by a vehicle (train). Bill Quimby

elkaholic Report post Posted August 25, 2015 the law is different in regards to deadheads and sheds option 3 which is probably the most frequently used ------- pickem up - don't tell anyone
Couzer Report post Posted August 26, 2015 So no phone call back yet, I had a buddy go check it out to see the size of it, well it definatley had some ground shrinkage. It looked a lot bigger from my point of veiw with all the tall grass around it. Just a rag horn bull but still wouldn't mind picking it up legal. Just waiting for a response from G&F. Couzer Report post Posted August 27, 2015 Update, so I got a call back from the AZGF and talk to the Feild Sup. It was explained to me that it was classified as same as a vehicle hit, that since I was not the engineer driving the train that it could not be issued to myself. Going to have to let it be. Just a Fyi the Game and Fish Sup was really great to chat with and I respect the law why I can not pick it up. I had a ground check on the bull a couple days ago, ended up being a rag horn bull looking bigger than it appeared to be. Still a nice find
Lazy-H98 Report post Posted August 27, 2015 So if you where driving the train it would have made a difference?
Couzer Report post Posted August 27, 2015 So if you where driving the train it would have made a difference? Probably only if I stopped, reported it and waited for them to show up which would not be a option to do.
MT_Sourdough Report post Posted August 28, 2015 I know why the laws exist regarding wildlife and the fight against poaching, but all these laws are still overbearing legalese that probably do little to stop poaching. Instead it forces simple country folk to develop a complex and nuanced understanding of law like a friggin lawyer. Good common folk are at risk of being criminalized, without any ill intent, because of their gazillion dang laws.
Edge Report post Posted August 28, 2015 Too bad, Devan. But it looks like the left antler is already being chewed on.
Couzer Report post Posted August 28, 2015 Yea it is to bad Tim, I just passed by it this morning, crows are all over it and looks like coyotes have been on it. Your right Sourdough, the laws are grey and I think it's all who you talk to. I was with a wildlife biologist in unit 1 when we found a 340ish bull and he kept it. rageinthesage Report post Posted August 28, 2015 That nasty stinky thing isn't worth picking up. If it's still there in a few weeks and it's been picked clean and your running on color have your engineer stop and throw it on the cat walk. Other than that it's not worth your time.
