rossislider Report post Posted August 14, 2015 Anyone shooting the Savage 17 WSMs? They have me intrigued, but I'm seeing mixed reviews on several forums regarding their accuracy. I'm particularly interested in the Savage B.Mag Target. If anyone has shot one, please let me know what you think.
khmer6 Report post Posted August 14, 2015 It peaked my interest when I first heard about it. But feels just like a gimmick after you factor it all in. Just looking to put impressive numbers on paper. 4000fps sounds great. But not being able to reload and rifle and ammo costing the same as other varmint rifle/cartridge I lost interest
yotebuster Report post Posted August 14, 2015 My dad just bought the new ruger 77 in 17wsm. Sweet gun. Haven't shot it yet though so not much help there. I've heard and seen nothing but bad things about the savages though. Make sure you handle one and load the magazine etc before you buy. Haven't been around the one you pictured but the original B mag looks and feels like a BB gun.
WampusCat Report post Posted August 14, 2015 If a proven design is what you are after, I can highly recommend a CZ chambered in 17 Hornet over the 17WSM. Incedibly accurate and reloadable if you fancy that. I have found it to be plenty-o-medicine for my purposes as well. I posted about mine in the predator forum a while back.
STOMP442 Report post Posted August 14, 2015 The Ruger one is a much better built rifle without any of the problems the Savage ones have and just as accurate from what I have seen. http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2015/06/varminter-com-reviews-ruger-7717-in-17-wsm-rimfire/
shanehamblin Report post Posted August 14, 2015 I bought one strictly for my kids and because there is ammo available where ever I look for it. So far I have been impressed out to 300 yards. My son loves to shoot it and he has been slaying the prairie dogs with it by the way this thing will turn a prairie dog inside out. Fun little gun to shoot.
kazpilot25 Report post Posted August 14, 2015 It's a fun little round. The savage B-Mag with the plastic stock had problems because the stock was so poorly made. I've actually sold quite a few rifles in the 17WSM lately and everyone seems to love it. It's definitely a fun little round to shoot.
brademan76 Report post Posted August 14, 2015 I've got a Savage BMAG in 17WSM with the heavy barrel and even with the flimsy stock that comes with it it is very accurate (both 20 & 25g bullets) and a lot of fun to shoot. For the price, I would definitely recommend them. I haven't shot one with the laminated stock and stainless barrel like in your photo, but I would assume thats a really decent setup. My next move with this gun is to put swap out with an aftermarket stock which are under $100. I would recommend trying one out. Anyone saying that the .17 HMR is better is just biased because of their ownership of rifles of that caliber... Both are a lot of fun to plink with and take out small varmints. Its been devastating on everything up to big boar racoons. I had 1 shot at a running coyote, but led him too far and missed.
Presmyk Report post Posted August 15, 2015 I shot a yote with one did not recover him ,was a 80 yard shot was sitting quartering to with the 25 grn bullet could hear it pop him but will never know. Groups were not impressive I was expecting at least moa at 100 was more like a 1.5 closer to 2. It was the stainless bull barrel version
