Maverick351 Report post Posted August 13, 2015 Is there a particular call that you prefer? Planning on buying a caller this weekend for the hunt. Just curious what sounds are best or that I should load on the caller.

Big Browns Report post Posted August 13, 2015 Best advise is to have a very long 45 min+ loop. You generally need to call for a long time for Bears & Lions. The longer the loop the better!
CouesPursuit Report post Posted August 13, 2015 Didn't mean anything bad just saying it is worth a search
tjhunt2 Report post Posted August 13, 2015 Big Brown is right on. I haven't called for bears in years but when I did it was a minimum of 45 min. to an hour. I used the circe cotton tail. It is demanding on the lungs but rewarding when it all goes right. Good luck to all you bear hunters. TJ

kidso Report post Posted August 14, 2015 I just call with an open reed call so I can vary the pitch and tone at will from a tweeting bird to a bleating fawn.

rcdinaz Report post Posted August 14, 2015 I tried the fawn distress this season after seeing some spotted twins. Of course the two knuckle heads I was with blew it about 15 minutes in anyway. One couldn't take the bugs anymore and the other got a butt cramp and had to get up and walk around. Needless to say next time they get to watch from 500 yds.
twowindy Report post Posted August 14, 2015 I've called in 6 bears over the years. Most with a circe jackrabbit call. All but 1 came in in less than 20 min.
.270 Report post Posted August 18, 2015 i've called in quite a few over the years. all on lbind calls, all with a circe magnum jackrabbit. but that's all i use for anything. i think with bears it's more about where you are than what you use. get on the edge of a big canyon where the sound can carry a long ways, if you're calling blind. if you see one and sneak in close, about anything oughta work.
