Jr deer hunt, I think daddy is getting more & more excited

Recommended Posts

Just received two jr deer hunt tags in the mail, thought why not take the 10 yr old daughter to get acclimated to the Kimberl 270 wsm since the boy has already done so 2 yrs in a row. Spent 30 minutes warming up the the CZ 452 22lr. Breathing, squeezing the trigger and basic fundamentals.

It got real warm really quick so we moved to the longer down range targets and got her set up. She squeezed off only 3 rds, not because of the kick but due to the other land cannons being shot on either side of her. All 3 rds within a 6" circle, not bad for 1st time out. She said the kick wasn't bad it was the boom that got to her. I told her when you see deer, the adrenaline kicks in and the only thing you hear is your heartbeat. Everything else somehow goes away.

We will definitely dial it in as it gets cooler but very proud of her for shooting her 1st high caliber rifle. Next week I plan on taking her to the special deer place to see if I can teach her the patience of glassing and checking the game camera.

Only got pics of the 22 target, hers were on the left mine the right.

Nice! Looks like maybe the range down off Harrison. Yeah plenty of cannons down there most of the time. Can't wait for my kids to get their first tags! :D

Winner winner chicken dinner, you are correct on range location. Yeah when she was shooting the 22, some guy next to us was slinging lead down range from his pistols. I don't mind, but I was more worried about the spent casings flying our way and landing and scorching her.

I like that range most of time, close and convenient but would rather get out some place out in the sticks to do this kind of thing. It just sucks you have to go so far to do so.
