Couple of Questions..

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a pair of the monarch 10's from Doug at Cameraland. I opted for the 10x56's and I'll tell you what man, they are a great glass. I am very well pleased with them and will use these along side with my swaro's 15x56's that I plan to purchase in the next couple of months. I have also looked through the Brunton's and they just didn't work for me. I felt eye strain as I looked through them, however, some people love em'. You definitely need to check them out side by side.

Also, don't hesitate to give Doug a call when you figure out what you want. He will take care of you. I purchased a demo pair and have literally no complaints about the glasses I recieved. They are optically perfect with no scratches and he sent them right out. Very pleased with his service. Good Luck!

despite popular belief, it should be noted that you can glass game up using 15s without having them mounted on a tripod. yes it is more difficult but has and can be done. if the animals are far away you might not see them or if you do you probably will not get enough clear detail to make out bucks from does. if due to unique circumstances, getting on a tripod is not possible, find a place where you can rest both elbows on your knees. this should only be done short term. if you are going to be in a spot for awhile, break out the tripod. I also know a couple of guys that use walking sticks. the sticks have a hole in the end that their binocular tripod mount fits into and it is all set up to be right at eye level for them. once again, a very good short term solution to breaking out a tripod.

Well it's simply stated like everything in life, you pay for what you get. I have researched and looked through alot of binos and when it comes down to it nothing beats swarovski. I had the same debate you had should I get the 15's or the 10's? I do most of my glassing from a tripod, but when I am hiking and jump something out or just want to glass right in front of me as I top over a ridgeline I want to be able to glass off hand. I went with the 10x50 swarovski slc binos. These are awesome, side by side comparison to the 15,s dang near just as good, but have a wider field of view. I love em, and you can glass perfect off hand with them.

When it comes to state law, u can have a sidearm while you are in the field. The azgfd just passed a new law about 2 yrs ago to allow archers to carry a sidearm, but the barrel lenght has to be 6" or less for protection (keep in mind the barrel lenght only applys if you are carring archery equipment). U need to look into a concealed weapons permit if our gonna carry it in the vehicle or anywhere else unless it is visible, even in a holster it has to be visible. I always have a sidearm on me when I am in the field. Always on my side in a holster and not in my backpack, I like it right where I can get to it if I need it.

As far as trail camers are concerned, I have one out right now and I am gonna go get it this week. It's in an area where a few migrants are. I hope it's still there. I think you will be fine, most migrants shouldn't mess with it and I have lots of buddies who have them set up down in the heart of migrant traffic. They haven't had any problems yet.

Welcome to the site, I hope all my info helps with your decision.

Been reading through the forums for awhile now, finally signed up. Had a few questions to ask.. I read through pages of topics, so i'm hoping im not bringing up anything that has been discussed time and time again.

First off, i was wondering what the state law was when it came to carrying a sidearm while hunting as far as age. I'm 19 and hunt down south, i come across illegals often and what seems like well traveled routes for them. I like the idea of being able to carry a sidearm for protection, but, i know state law says you have to be 21 to buy a handgun or handgun ammunition, is there a law against carrying one while hunting for protection?

Secondly, i'm in the market for new binoculars, i noticed a lot of you are partial to swarovski. i've always used zeiss but recently my dad moved to texas, with all his gear. for now i'm only going to most likely purchase one pair, i used the zeiss classic 15 and 10 power binocs extensively for years, and really like them. problem is they're hard to come by. the zeiss 15s are way to bulky to use for anything other than tripod, but the 10s can be used for both, so comparing the zeiss classic 10s to the swarovski slc 15s, somebody have any experience with these two side by side? besides the obvious power difference, can the swarvoski 15s possibly still be used for around the neck as well as primarily tripod?

Third, for those of you with trail cams that use them in the southern part of the state, do you leave your flash on at night? just curious, because of the traffic of the illegals if the cameras ever come up missing?

sorry for the long post, thanks guys

Sicne your Binos discussin is covered Ill mention I lost two trail cams that I know for sure were taken by Illegals as they were in the middle of no where. No one else would have been there and I have never seen anyone else there.
