How does late Oct hunting differ from Nov/ Dec

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping for an early 36a tag also. I prefer 34a but my schedule only allowed for the October hunt this time because of other elk/deer tags we drew. Gonna be a busy fall! I've tried calling to find out if they could tell me if I drew a leftover but the old lady from game and fish said to try tomorrow cause it was still too early.

Just be careful about getting the chorizo and egg burritos from the little place on the corner ... Chorizo has a way of coming back and making you pay at the most inopportune times :P

I had the early November hunt two years ago and it was still blazing hot and less deer activity from what I can tell. Last year had the thanksgiving hunt and was quite a bit cooler with lots of activity, was even able to tag out.

If any of you guys get the oct. 36a tag I'd like to know where some of you guys camp. I'll most likely be camping alone half the time down there and would like to at least be with in ear shot incase I need more amo in the middle of the night.

Camp on the Buenos Aires. You won't be alone. Lots of people camped all over just off of the Arivaca hwy.

The answer to your question is the weather is warmer in October than November, most years. There also a few more young bucks out there.

I've hunted mule deer and whitetails in every unit in southern Arizona over the past 67 years of hunting deer in this state. but all of my deer hunts were in October and November. There were no December hunts when I still was healthy enough to hunt whitetails.

I do remember seeing many huge whitetail bucks during the January archery javelina seasons, though.

Those big deer had to have been ghosts, or maybe even mirages. The large numbers of bow and rifle hunters who were issued licenses and tags by our game department every year were killing every buck on the mountain.

They did it year after year, and they're still doing it.

:D :D

There are usually a lot of camps off the Batamote sp? Rd on the south end of the sierritas if you plan to hunt that area. I used to years ago but have moved to B.
