deserthntr Report post Posted August 1, 2015 a couple months ago i had my motor seize in my truck. it was my fault should have been more careful. had my check oil light come on and figured i was only a few minutes outside of payson and thought that id be ok to make it into town since oil pressure was fine. then oil pressure dropped to zero and motor killed. got into town and found oil had been leaking while driving on the highway and motor had locked up. i have been waiting on a guy to pull a motor out of another vehicle so i could buy it off of him and im tired of waiting. id rather do a complete rebuild if i can but i havent had time to break into the motor and see whats broke and locked up. with a recent promotion at work combined with school i dont have time to drop a new motor in or rebuild it. so if someone in the valley does this and wants some side work id love to talk and give my money to the cwt crowd. i can tow it to you, but id rather stay within a 30 minute drive of my house in central mesa if i can. if not no big deal, its a 2005 silverado 5.3 ltr. shoot me a pm or text 480-284-33six9 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Couzer Report post Posted August 1, 2015 If you want to try to buy a low mile used one call Buddy at Arizona Auto Parts, he can usually get a good deal on one. TonyC Report post Posted August 1, 2015 Well.. overhauls are generally a pain in the butt man. Most of the time, you need to disassemble it all down and send in the block and have it re-machined if it is salvageable. My opinion is to keep looking out for a decent used motor or buy a cheap crate motor. Let me know if you need any assistance.. I'm not a certified mechanic but I was a mechanic for the military for four years.. So, I know enough to get things done. Couzer Report post Posted August 1, 2015 Also there is a pretty good company called Engine House of of I17 and Indian School that rebuilds motors bit like others said you might have a expensive core charge. deserthntr Report post Posted August 2, 2015 so rebuild is probably not worth doing, and just finding a used motor would be a better option. i had plans of getting rid of the truck and getting into something new till this happened. ill probably keep it for a while longer if i have to get a crate motor to put into it. was looking on craigslist for a used motor and there isnt much out there. everything is from 03 and older, thats when they started changing egr and from cable to wire fed throttle right? would i be able to get a motor from 2000-2003 and basically be able to drop in, or would that be more of a hassle than its worth? i havent been able to call any shops just yet. muledeerarea33? Report post Posted August 2, 2015 Oil starvation is usually the top end, pistons and rings. If it wasn't caused by a leak then it was caused by burning. I recommend finding a used motor since they are plentiful. If you wanted to rebuild it can be done cheaper if the crank and rods are ok, they should be. A used engine is easier and quicker to install and will eliminate the "what if" risks of a rebuild. Either way you do it, it's cheaper than a new truck. Just make sure you do new mounts, hoses and belts while it's out, might as well. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
