jamaro Report post Posted June 11, 2007 Hey Everybody... I am getting everything together to start reloading... My Hornady Reloading book has a list of powders and amounts but it doesn't list which primers are suggested.. Are all Mag primers interchangeable? thanks jason
ichiban43 Report post Posted June 11, 2007 Yup!--Any brand mag primer will work and interchange. Some people seem to have a preference. Personally--I've used CCI mag primers exclusively in my 308 N0rma mag for years with fine performance.

Is there a crosswalk for the different brands that are compatible with the WLMR? J-

firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 I use federal 215Match primers for anything over about 53 grains of powder. experiment with em you might be surprised how much of difference there is!
matthewp45 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 Make sure that you stick with the same brand when you find the load you like. I have switched brands because of unavailability and had the performance of the bullet change. I personally use federal 215's for mags and 210's for large rifle. I have reloaded thousaands of rounds and only had one mis fire. It was because of a missing anvil. Check each primer before you load them.

Red Rabbit Report post Posted June 16, 2007 Jason, What cartridge are you reloading? Powder choice? I would use a magnum rifle primer with a large charge like in a WSM, Weatherby or Win mag, or with a ball type powder. Try a standard rifle primer with stick powders in a cartridge like a 30-6, 270 or smaller. As you read in Hawks article, changing to a WMR primer may raise pressures a lot, so drop the charge and work back up. I have used the Federal Gold Medal Match and CCI primers the most with no problems. You may notice some brands will seat easier/looser, and/or flatten more when fired.
