Okay, this is really odd....$8000 fine or not ?

So, he did do something wrong, but found a way around the punishment?

Yes if he ever wants another tag or license in Az. He will have to pay the $8000 and take the hunter ed class.

Gray light aka Marlon didn't have his hunting privileges taken. It was a misprint. He had several charges against him that were dropped in regards to shooting two mule deer. Not sure which charge stuck but I know he paid $8000 for doing something he shouldn't have. This is according to game and fish meeting records. He does seem into himself but I'm not saying I wouldn't like to be where he is regarding sponsors (vortex, hoyt) he does whatever it takes to get the sponsors and I don't blame him.

That there is where the problem lies. Too many people willing to do ANYTHING to get noticed or to get a "leg up". I (and many other people) would rather never compromise morals, integrity or even my association with others to get gain.

I guess I need to reword what I said earlier. I didn't mean for it to sound like it's OK to do whatever you want to get sponsors (poaching etc.) I'm saying these days guys that seem to be the most outgoing and social media crazed and kind of into themselves are guys getting the attention from a lot of companies. Maybe the companies see a lot of people talking about them whether good or bad and want the publicity. I know what kind of person you are and know you're nothing like that Houston, as a matter of fact most great hunters I know just keep to themselves and don't parade their success around. But in the end whether we like it or not parading the success all over the Internet is what seems to be getting companies attention.

The reason all charges were dropped was because he legally took the game but missed tagging one and officers attacked real quick. Not defending him missing the tag and its possible in tensions were bad just I know I made the same mistake when caught up in the moment. I had my kids with me and when I realized it I tagged the animal. Dude was intense for sure i would love to see him on again and cover some of this material and get to know him more. Maybe with a little more direction. I know a guy just like this who is so intense most people avoid him but I see through it and have had good conversations.

He had EVERY intention of doing what he did......and simply finally got caught. He is truly a legend in his own mind, and not what today's bowhunter should represent, IMO.

As far as i know, there aren't many G&F rules you could break that would get you an $8000 fine. I'm guessing he hired a high dollar attorney and got the charges turned into a healthy fine so he could avoid losing his license. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you lose your license in AZ, you lose it in most western states as well? This would have potentially put him "out of business". He did something very wrong, but weasel'd his way out of it somehow.

I call for this podcast to get the officer and holden each on separate to hear both sides. Seems the public never gets to hear the real story.
