Dog owners

Recommended Posts

Thanks guys. Had someone ask me to take in a dog because of a family emergency and once I bought all the stuff and got things together they sold the dog instead so now I got a house full of kids who were expecting a puppy. Hmmmmm this won't turn out good.

Bummer what kind of dog? You looking for a dog?

Could be Tres. Never really looked into it? She likes it and she's healthy. Easier on her body than the meat since she's older and less stinky meaty dog farts haha!! I just wish a company would make an affordable dog food that wasn't all "meal" corn, meat, veggie, or otherwise. For a one dog family blue buffalo is good I would think.

my dog eats whatever we eat, at the table with us. has his own chair an' everthing. then when we're done he wanders around on the table and licks all the plates clean enough that you can just put em back in the cupboard ready for next time. he really likes pancakes with prickly pear syrup and biscuits and gravy. We used to feed Breeders Choice that was an AZ company out of Camp Verde with good success. The problem is with 4 dogs it was too expensive so we switched to Costco brand food.

We have a Rottweiler with a sensitive stomach so trying to find foods that don't mess him up is hard but both of the above were good for him.

I use the Costco brand now too. Lamb & rice for my adult dogs, and the chicken puppy formula for the new pups. Great coats, great energy/activity level, no weight gain, super teeth, no issues with appetite or stomach issues.

Adults get 1 cup in the AM, 1 1/2 cups PM Approximately 65# male GSPs.

Puppies get 1 cup AM, 1 cup noon, 1 1/4 cup PM

Depending on what we had for dinner, dogs get the leftover meat as an added bonus to their dinner.

The times have changed for certain. Growing up we just filled the big bowl up once a day with Ol' Roy from WalMart and let the hounds sort it out. Looking back I'm sure it wasn't the best chow for them, but it was what my folks could afford. Couldn't have been too bad cause a couple of those must were still trucking along at 15 yrs old. I think we learned a little bit since those days.

Thanks guys, well now I'm up in the air on what to do. I really wasn't looking for a dog but was us to be helping out someone. Well I stupidly showed the kids the dog that was coming and now there is no dog. I'm hoping this will pass but if not I may be looking.

Not sure if this works with every breed but I kept food out all the time with my German Shepherd/Husky mix when he was a pup and now he only eats when he is hungry.

I feed my dog Merrick. Its a grain free dog food based out of Texas. Its on the expensive side but worth it for me. My American Bulldog eats 1 1/2 cups morning and night.

Used to be that diamond actually had the production plant several dog food were made at including Kirkland. It was a chocolate lab pup.

Nutro makes the Costco brand.. (Not sure about the grain free though)

Thanks for clarifying that guys. I must have read it wrong or misunderstood what it said.

We feed our lab Authority which is Pet Smart brand. Runs around $35 and I'm not 100% sure it's 40 lbs. a bag. 1 cup in the morning and 1 cup in the evening. A few treats in between. 74lb lab.

Good luck on your new dog. :)

Kirkland brand from Costco. My sister did a comparison to other brands that are much higher priced and the ingredients showed to be the same if not better than most of them. Been feeding my lab that for years. Think it's about $30 a bag.
