Tonto Creek? Going to Roosevelt you never see a single saguaro till you are about to Jakes Corner, Which makes me think could be out in Tonto Basin somewhere.

nope, nope, nope, nope. ok it's called Markham creek. or wash or canyon. about due north of pima on the north side of the gila. the right hand canyon get it's runoff from slaughter mt, the lefthand canyon starts up by the cabin on the mcuen's 99 ranch. it's a kind of a little known place that you should visit sometime. this photo was in a real wet spring about 3 years ago. the reason i kept emphasizing saguaros is because it is the eastern most stand. there aren't any east of this canyon. many indian caves. several active blackhawk nests. eagles nests. if you know where they are and don't mind a little walk, there are at least 3 places that have live water, always. lots of frogs and some kind of minnow. i've killed muleys, lions, pigs, coatis, quail, coyotes, foxes, bobcats, all kindsa stuff in that area. there are also elk, whitetail, bears, bighorn, and an occasional turkey. there is a real substantial natural bridge. lots of shear cliffs hundreds of feet tall. stinkin' grave robbers have pilferd a lot of the caves. there is one that had a mud oven built in it. the whole thing was still there. hiked up to it awhile back and stinkin' grave robbers had destroyed it with picks. dug up the whole floor. there are a couple giant caves. some that have been dug by universities. probably a bunch that ain't even been found. it's quite a desert riparian area that shows what a little water can do. Almost said the 99. We were up there last year in December for 3 days. The suaguros growing right next to the pines was neat to see. We never dropped down the canyon that it think your picture was taken. Is it past the house, past the meadow on the Rez line to the right?

that's probly cuz it was filmed at old tucson or apacheland. you always see tumbleweeds in westerns too. but they didn't arrive here from russia until sometime after the civil war. or old west soldiers in the 70's and 80's using '92 and '94 winchesters.. they never used a winchester until the '95 and the '92 and '94 weren't even around until 92 and 94. but, what are you gonna do. a guy hasta watch westerns. go visit Markham creek. take all day. quite a place.
