jp0212 Report post Posted July 19, 2015 We shoot in the park by our house in Gilbert Have you ever had any issues? I live in Gilbert as well and can get 35 yards in backyard, but I really want to train at longer distances of 60-70 yards. Thought about going to a field or park, but not sure if it the public parks permit it.
HuntHarder Report post Posted July 19, 2015 It will depend on the city, best bet is to call your local police and simply ask. I know 5 or so years ago, I was shooting in the huge storm water run off wash in Peoria, and the police came and informed us that it was illegal to shoot down there. They were very cool about it, but I believe they had a statute in Peoria regarding archery in backyards and public places not intended for archery. Make a quick phone call or email, ( so you have it in writing) and shoot without worrying.
Chris Report post Posted July 19, 2015 I'm at Tatum and Bell, north of me there is a big desert area for walking. But they do post signs saying "no shooting of guns or bows." So I'm guessing, unless posted, it's okay. I use to shoot a portable target at GCC all the time, and never had anyone say anything.
Red Sparky Report post Posted July 19, 2015 Ask your local law enforcement agency. This is NM and not AZ but I live in the un-incorperated area of the county and not in the city limits. In some cities it is illegal to even shoot BB guns in the city limits. It is illegal to shoot bows in the city parks here, city ordinance. My house is on 2/3 of an acre and the entire back yard is block wall so I have a range in my back yard. No neighbors behind me and an 8 ft. wall to the east as I live on a hill and the rest is 4 ft high on the south and west. I built an 8 ft high x 10 ft wide back stop and can shoot to 70 yards. It is nice to be able to step out the back door and shoot daily. I did shoot out my target one time though. I had the target set up at about 30 yards and when the arrow hit the target I heard a sound like when you hit a watermelon. The arrow went through the target and smacked the block wall 40 yards down range, ruining one of my hunting arrows. I shoot a Hoyt at 70 lbs.
Dustin F Report post Posted July 20, 2015 I had a buddy call the 39th and cactus police station and the lady said "are you asking me what you should do or what's legal " so they frown upon it but it's not illegal
