varnco Report post Posted July 17, 2015 Having a difficult time finding an answer on the interweb, so thought I'd ask here. Is it legal to shoot you bow in your backyard in the City of Phoenix/Maricopa County? I see last year it was made okay to "legally shoot archery on private property in Maricopa"... not sure what "legally shoot" means. I'm still searching, but just in case someone here has a definitive answer, it's much appreciated.

MuggyMan Report post Posted July 18, 2015 I do it. It I were to totally miss target, never happens, the arrow would hit block wall. Safer than lawn darts...

Norteno Report post Posted July 18, 2015 I have a two story house and I shoot AT my house. It's only like 10-15 yards, but it keeps me in bow shape. My block wall is only 6ft and if for some reason I miss I've got neighbors. My brothers neighbor in Albuquerque was shot in the back by some guy shooting in his backyard. I think the guy wasn't seriously hurt though....the guy was shooting a Mathews.

varnco Report post Posted July 18, 2015 Thanks for the replies. I can legally conceal carry my pistol until I get to a federal building, then its no longer legal. I was wondering that perhaps there was an odd rule in dense hh areas or near schools, etc. Where it would no linger be . Legal for archery. Shoot, airsoft guns are or were illegal to use in Scottsdale. .crazy. I have been shooting, just want to make sure in case one of my neighbors freak out. Viper Report post Posted July 18, 2015 We shoot in the park by our house in Gilbert Does the city have a range set up, or do you just put out a target and shoot? Any backstop? I dont have any problem with that, but I have a hard time believing the city would allow it. I have a huge retention area by my house in Mesa. I'd love to be able to shoot there, if I dont get harrassed by the cops. I've been shooting in my backyard for years, but can barely get 30 yards.
Flatlander Report post Posted July 18, 2015 No range, we just put the target down. It's a retention area so we shoot towards the slope. Literally I would have to point my bow 45 degrees in the air to hit anything but grass. I always do it on the far end of the park from where all the playgrounds and courts are and go when it's not busy. It's a small park so it's not uncommon to have it all to myself. Flatlander Report post Posted July 18, 2015 I shot a hole in the wall of my man cave a couple years back. But in 18 years of shooting in my back yard I have put 2 arrows into the block wall. Shooting in those conditions is good training. Pay attention to where you point your arrow at all times. I never point my bow up when drawing. I come up from the ground. My bow never points above my chest level.
