TonyC Report post Posted July 16, 2015 I will definitely be posting pictures! The family is extremely excited to have her join the family. I will continue to post about her progress. I'm hoping to get her trained and outdoors with me in the near future! Anyone who has advice on training, I would be glad to hear it! I've been reading tons of stuff and most from a book called "Gun Dog." Also, I am looking for others to meet up and have a "dog play day"
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted July 16, 2015 Best advise, train her to come/heal, snake train, and then get out in the woods! Let her be a puppy for awhile (as advised in gun dogs).
CouesPursuit Report post Posted July 16, 2015 Great story here, well done mda33 and Tony. And good advice here above fcw80 ^^. Come/heel and sit/stay are critical to the rest of any gun dog training. My advice is to get started immediately with come and sit, and graduate soon into heel and stay. The more stern you are about OB now, the easier training will be. What's next depends on what kind of dog you're looking for. Any of the books by Richard Wolters will get you a happy family and hunting companion. Keep in mind Gun Dog was written over 50 years ago, times have changed and research has evolved new training methods. If you want to take her to the next level, there are better, modern programs that come in DVD sets. My lab Drake and I train for waterfowl retrieving everyday at the park when the temps get back down in September, right now I limit him to water work when we can get to the lake and short backyard drills. If you'd like, send me a pm when the pup has her shots and is ready to join. I'm looking forward to seeing how she turns out, best of luck! p.s. what's her name?
punxsutawn Report post Posted July 16, 2015 http://www.amazon.com/Training-Your-Retriever-James-Lamb/dp/0399136207 By far, the best book I used to train Retrievers. He has a simple, fool proof method that works so well! Glad you got her. I miss mine and almost pulled the trigger. I just don't believe I have the proper time to spend with a pup right now. Enjoy! TonyC Report post Posted July 16, 2015 Awesome! I will definitely keep in touch with you couespursuit. As far as the "type" of dog. I'm not quite sure. I would be pretty much happy with anything, the main thing is that she is obedient. (which falls on the basics of my training) I would love to meet up with you sometime and talk about all this stuff and see how you went about training. punxsutawn, thanks for the reference I will add it to the list. We've decided to call her "Daisy"
muledeerarea33? Report post Posted July 17, 2015 Well little miss daisy is on her way to the city with Tony. It was hard to let him take her lol. I had to shoot the crap with him for awhile before I let her go haha!! Seems to be a good guy and I'm sure she'll have an amazing home. Thanks to everyone who asked about her.

hunt4horns Report post Posted July 17, 2015 Woo Hoo, Daisy is going flying. What a good story. From lost in the desert to flying co-pilot. Ears blowing in the wind and tongue hanging out.
TonyC Report post Posted July 17, 2015 Daisy and I got home a bit late but she took to home like a pig in mud! She is loving it here and is such a beautiful pup and so happy! There will be more pictures to come but here is her sleeping in a little "tote box" to get her warmed up to the kennel/crate.

TonyC Report post Posted July 18, 2015 Well.. I'm not too proud to admit but Daisy will be going back to muledeerarea. Unfortunately, the wife feels a bit overwhelmed with the girls and a puppy. She is such a joy though and will be hard to let her go. But.. we all know who rules the house.. "a happy wife is a happy life"
muledeerarea33? Report post Posted July 18, 2015 Your a good man Tony. There wasn't a need to make it public but your man enough. You guys tried and it didn't work out. It's no problem taking her her back. Pry end up keepin her unless someone close to me wants her but I'd rather not stress her goin home to home. Again, no skin off anyone's back and don't feel bad. Life happens man.
TonyC Report post Posted July 18, 2015 Well, thanks. We just want what is best for the pup. Unfortunately, my dogs aren't to fond to a puppy biting them in the rear.. haha (ankle biter) That and my girls are scaring her because they want to play with her but they act like she's one of their toys Overall, it sucks to give her back because we really enjoyed having her and were very excited to get her but she deserves to be in a place where only the best treatment is there.. There will be another time in the future when i can save a pup.
