az2ak Report post Posted July 12, 2015 Well the whole luck of the draw thing is not fair because i dont feel that i desrve the tag in 12 A, especially with only 3 bonus points acrewed. However this is a once in a life time hunt and great ful to tackle it now while i am fit and healthy. Does any body know or have any experience with the guides in Northern Arizona for buffalo? HuntHarder Report post Posted July 13, 2015 Russ Jacoby is one of the better guides for that 12a hunt.
tjhunt2 Report post Posted July 13, 2015 Lance at Timberland Outfitters has a pretty good track record with these critters. Good luck on your hunt.
Big Tub Report post Posted July 13, 2015 Little Tub got drawn and was looking: somebody quoted him a seven day hunt for like $5500. I can't imagine why it should be limited to a 7 day hunt.

khmer6 Report post Posted July 13, 2015 Holy smokes. Congrats to all and especially little tub! But yeeeehaw 5500 for a 7 day hunt? It's that only hunter and no spectators. Makes the price of the tag sound cheap!!!
jmall Report post Posted July 13, 2015 Which hunt did you draw. I drew the Sept 10 muzzy cow hunt.
8OWHUNT247 Report post Posted July 13, 2015 Either one of my kids or I drew a tag also.. We should keep in touch! I am not going the guided route though. I just need to find these famous salt licks.... (Hint Hint) Can somebody help me out with that?
khmer6 Report post Posted July 14, 2015 Maybe a few licks fell off your truck while you were scouting because you forgot to put the tailgate up and was on your way to help a friend put out salt lick for his cattle for supplemental winter feed?
Buff#1 Report post Posted July 14, 2015 Hello congrats to the lucky tag holders, Russ and I operate Chads Guide Service. Russ spends more time hunting Bison on the kaibab plateau then anyone. We have hunt packages that run from $2,000 to $10,000. We price our hunt packages according to what our hunters want and need. We are one of the few fully licensed and permited hunting guides that are 100% legal to run a hunting guide operation on the Kaibab plateau. Before you book a hunt with a outfitter I would strongly suggest calling the kaibab national forest and see if your outfitter has all of there permits to be conducting busness on the kaibab.(928-643-7395) We also recomend calling the wildlife managers in that unit and asking them about outfitters up on the kaibab. (Todd and Jeremy) call any AZGF office and get there contact info. Please fill free to contact us if you have any questions. In 2014 alone we are responsable for helping hunters harvasting 50 bison on the kaibab. Chad Woodruff 928-814-2117 Russ Jacoby 928-814-9622
Big Tub Report post Posted July 15, 2015 Very good info: What kind of hunt success rate did you have on the archery hunt and what time period should you expect to need?
Buff#1 Report post Posted July 15, 2015 Last year we were 98% success on all of our buffalo hunts. The 2 hunters that didn't fill there tags only stayed and hunted 2 days each. On average it takes 7 to 10 days. This year due to the huge amount of water the buffalo are not coming off of the park as often as normal. We Russ and Corky will be teaching the AZGF bison clinic August 8th in phx. we highly recommend attending. all successful hunters will get a invite.
NOTAGS Report post Posted July 20, 2015 Plus one for Chad's and Russ Jacoby! I was one of his 98% last year, I took the first bull of the season in January, and at the risk of skewing Chad's hunt average, I was done in one day...albeit the longest but most rewarding day of hunting in my life. The guy knows every tree, buffalo pit stop, travel route, etc. on the Kaibab. He is the Buffalo Bomb! I talked to another outfitter prior who had me convinced that you cant get in till the snow starts melting, but Russ isnt afraid of the snow pack and can show you photos of snow hunts that will blow your mind. Plus he's a heck of a lot of fun to be around which makes it easier to be freezing and tired after a 23 hour day of hunting and packing meat! Best day of my hunting life! Congratulations to all that drew, I wish you success and great memories!
Stray Horse Report post Posted August 16, 2015 I only knew Russ for seven days. He was great to us.
