naturegirl Report post Posted July 17, 2015 They are less active when it's cold but they can go months without a host. Some ticks can go 2 years without a host during certain life stages. Yuck. Just to clarify the tick that bit me and Paul carries Rickettsia parkeri. It is similar but different than RMSF. Paul is the first known case in AZ with Rickettsia parkeri and I'm being researched by the dept of Health/CDC as a potential case #2. They will draw blood again in a couple weeks to test the levels. They are trying to find out more about this and they will ultimately tell me whether or not I was infected. I've heard of 2 border patrol agents bit by ticks this last week. I worry for BP as they are out there all the time. I'm feeling fine now and i'm taking the doxycycline til it's gone.
