rossislider Report post Posted July 3, 2015 A lot of those bucks are man made freaks. I remember reading about this years ago and how upset I got. Here is an article that talks about it. http://www.outdoorlife.com/photos/gallery/hunting/2011/09/freak-show-bucks-look-genetically-altered-deer/?image=8

Here is an article that talks about it. http://www.outdoorlife.com/photos/gallery/hunting/2011/09/freak-show-bucks-look-genetically-altered-deer/?image=8 Sorry I didn't realize just how bad these farms raising these deer had gotten until I read your article rossislider. Seems like this is just a money oriented type thing with the deer being the ones that suffer. What a shame they can't grow like this in the wild without humans f-ing it up with steroids and such.
rossislider Report post Posted July 4, 2015 Shouldn't apologize, can hardly blame someone for looking at monster bucks. I only shared to educate, as someone did for me some years back. Hopefully as more and more of the right type of hunters learn about this stuff, the sooner it can be stopped?
murfys69law Report post Posted July 4, 2015 Well. I'm no spring chicken and have hunted for 45 years. I guess I didn't realize how much of this chit goes on until I get on the net or a site like this and see it. You really don't see much of this on the news so one has to do a little research sometimes I guess. Thanks for the info.
mattys281 Report post Posted July 4, 2015 I personally would not give my money to one of these deer farms and my first response is to cringe to hear someone talk about 'trophy deer' or 'hunters' in relation to their operations. They arent trophies by any measure, and its dang sure not hunting in my book. Any time theres a 100% success rate, no chance of failure, is it really hunting, or is it slaughtering at that point? That having been said, I cant say that im morally opposed to their business and i certainly wouldnt want it stopped. Selective breeding programs are common for dogs, horses, rodeo bulls, dairy cows, cats, fish, birds, reptiles, and probably many other animals for commercial purposes. If its bad for deer it must also be bad for other animals, so thats an implication i dont want made. Likewise, to say its wrong to kill pen raised deer can easily be used to set a precedent in the commercial meat industry. This is also thin ice. You have to keep in mind peta doesnt have a 5 year plan, they have a 20 year plan. That plan is not to erradicate hunting all of a sudden, it is to chip away day by day and year by year until all human use of all animals is gone. Dividing hunters into groups that fued and squabble with each other is a good way to take small bites of our sport at a time. If you dont think theyre successful, just ask anyone that used to hunt lions in cali, or bait bears in any of the states that have banned baiting. in the end, i dont like it so i wont use it. But i have no issue with people breeding animals and killing them for profit.
