Anyone hunt Illinois?

Recommended Posts

I did once. Went with Hadley Creek Outfitters. I won't post anything about the trip here on the forum but pm me if you want more info.

Trying to figure out what I need to hunt there as DNR gave me the run around and couldn't answer general information. Almost felt like I accidentally dialed Az g+f

It's horrible. Last year I bought my license and tag early. I got there and went to an office and they sold me the additionAL items I needed. Then we get down to Shawnee and need another permit and lost a good part of the day getting the permit. We had no printer to print it. Luckily the lady at DNR office had pity on us and printed our stuff.

It's a pain. Where will you be hunting? The apps were due a month ago. I'm just going to an office when I get there and have them sell me everything at once. Easier than how I did it last year.

I haven't decided if I will or not. Wife and I going to a family wedding. Located in Watseka in iroqouis county. They have a few properties with 75 acres plus on each one. I'd have about 2-1/2- 3 days to hunt. Was just looking at an OTC kinda deal

Plenty of time to let the air out of a doe. Find a good trail and climb a tree. I got a buddy in nebraska that swears by the tree saddle for that kind of fast set up hunting. Apparently you can get situated in any tree regardless of branches. Worth a look.

I hunted deer in Illinois years ago when only a non-resident license was needed. Trouble was, I had to use a shotgun with a rifled slug. The buck I shot jumped and ran off. We tracked him about 500 yards to a fence I was told I couldn't cross, even to recover a deer. I never hunted in that state again. -- Bill Quimby

Illinois public land hunting is better than some states private land hunting.

Even at that I only hunt private there too because it's easy to get permission there.
