varnco Report post Posted July 1, 2015 Beyond the areas where there are tons of trees, a lot of hunting happens where your Mesquite is your rare tree, are trail cameras any use in these environments? I've put in for a draw in unit 33, and hunted for Coues last year in the unit in the fingerlings area near PepperSauce (N.E. Side of mountains) and would like to incorporate trail cameras as part of my scouting this year (assuming I get a tag). So, anyone use trail cameras out in the desert to monitor trails, springs, etc. Thanks.
CWpredator Report post Posted July 1, 2015 Just shake any tree in 33 and a camera will fall out. There are cameras all over the entire unit...
MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted July 1, 2015 I think your looking for a stable platform correct? I take a good stick that's in the area and make a stake to drive into the ground and mount the cam to that. Work good for me. Just trim some grass weeds down or you will get a lot of wind triggers. AJOHNSON882 Report post Posted July 1, 2015 Be sure your cameras in 33 have lock boxs/locks.
varnco Report post Posted July 1, 2015 Thanks everyone! I didn't think Locks really mattered in today's world. If someone wants it, a cheap bolt cutter can handle it. Hiding is key, I would presume.

Hiding is key, I would presume. Hiding is the key. I've been running up to 10 cams at a time for 10-12 years now and never had one stolen, never locked one either. There is not any kind of a lockbox out there that will keep a thief from being a thief.
ready2hunt Report post Posted July 1, 2015 Rocks and dead fall are my favorite places to put a cam. The safest is high in a tree but if it's concealed well then you are fine.
Havasuhunter Report post Posted July 2, 2015 No cameras in AZ, they are illegal and even if they were legal, most guys are too ethical to use them.
520HUNT Report post Posted July 2, 2015 I have 20+ cams in 33 at anyone time...think outside the box as to where to hide them. Every one is looking for them at tanks and springs on the trees.

For a guy that openly bashed trail cams and trail cam users for a long time, you sure seem to have a lot of interest and knowledge about them as of late?

I believe most people are good but then there are the rest. james
