A/C on vacation?

Recommended Posts

ECOBEE T-Stats are pretty user friendly. One of my security techs did the install of one for a commercial customer of ours who renovated a house so some of their out of town clients had a convenient and cheap place to stay and he said it was a breeze.

I am assuming you already have a security system but a co-worker installed a new doorbell on his house that has a motion sensor, camera and speaker. When someone comes up to it the darn thing sends a signal to his cell phone and he can see who it is and talk to him.

Hey predator, off topic but could you figure out which brand he got and how he likes it? We just built s new shop/house in ND and we don't really have a front door except in the shop part so I want something like that to see if someone is there and who it is.

Sure he is on vacation but I'll shoot him an email. I think he said it was about 170 on EBAY and just runs off the two 24VAC wires. The streaming video was clear enough for me to recognize a family member of his walking up to the door with a bag of groceries.

Absolutely turn it up while you're gone. I like a cool house 76-78 but when I'm gone it's at 83-85. I have animals so turning it off completely isn't an option.

If I'm gone all day it goes up to 80.

I am at 74 and raise to 80 if we leave for more than two full days.

Raising the temperature too high will cost you more money.

On average an a/c will take one hour of work to drop the temperature one degree. It has to cool every thing in the home like walls, the chair you sit in to the bed you lay in, not just the air.

way too funny - lived in my home for 35 yrs - never had A/C put on a unit at a great price - bills shot up to 250 - 300 a month - turned the dang thing off - havn't used it the past 2 years

house never gets above 84-85 with cooler on but its mostly during the midday heat when its 110 +- muggy during monsoons but nothing a few extra fans blowin didn't cure - bill 80- 100 a month

just turned it on (a/c) yesterday cuz we got those snow birds comin I set it at 81 told wife I'd turn dang thing off if she set it in the 70's

A/C is nice an cool and no muggy feeling - should be good to go for relatives or they can go get a hotel !
