naturegirl Report post Posted June 28, 2015 Anyone here spear fish with homemade equipment? Im coming up with ideas but cheap, easy to make, and it must work is what I'm looking for. This sounds very fun! Forget a pole. Forget a bow. I want a spear.
MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted June 28, 2015 We used to do it in mexico with just spears. Works just fine. We used frog gigs
azslim Report post Posted June 28, 2015 used a Hawaiian spear when I was stationed there, aluminum pole about 4 ft long with a surgical rubber loop on one end and the 3 prong spear point on the other. Put the loop over your thumb, pull back and hold the pole, swim up to the fish point and let go. It worked good. I used it while scuba diving, had a blast. GreyGhost85 Report post Posted June 28, 2015 I think the only thing you can spear are suckers and carp?
LifeFeedsOnLife Report post Posted June 28, 2015 I go quite often just not with homemade equipment. I've tried that route and it didn't turn out for me... By the the time you get goggles, snorkel and fins I figure you might as well get a decent spear I've had mine for years. And yes only carp and stripers are legal to spear and striper only at pleasant but I'd have to double check.
naturegirl Report post Posted June 28, 2015 I've checked the regs already and its legal. Cat is legal too in very specific locations and stripers at Pleasant. Im not thinking swimming. It's off my kayak. Over time I've found a couple places where I believe this would be effective. I just have to give it a go. Anyone ever eat carp? I will try it if I kill it but I'd prefer a good recipe.
naturegirl Report post Posted June 28, 2015 Lol I agree. Apparently my son thinks the same as me but he's already tried it and was unsuccessful with homemade equipment.

Havasuhunter Report post Posted June 28, 2015 This is how I prepare carp. 1. Shoot carp with fish arrow 2. Remove fish arrow 3. Throw carp on bank. This recipe is excellent, I haven't heard a single vulture, racoon or Coyote complain.
naturegirl Report post Posted June 29, 2015 This is how I prepare carp. 1. Shoot carp with fish arrow 2. Remove fish arrow 3. Throw carp on bank. This recipe is excellent, I haven't heard a single vulture, racoon or Coyote complain. but have you ever tried it? I have to try it first before it becomes animal food. I know everyone says it's yucky, but have they actually tried it? Javi are supposed to taste gross, but don't.. Some people don't like duck, but I do. Frogs, turtles, elk, deer, snake = yummy. I'll try carp too at least once. I don't have smoker but I know someone who does. My cousin in Illinois sent me a picture of a spear he made and has been successful with. He uses the carp for dog food...lol. Maybe he doesn't have a smoker. Now to make my spear...lmao. I will be sure to attempt this endeavor when I have the water to myself.
