Basspro..😡😡

Recommended Posts

I have had some issues with basspro the last few times I've gone in and I've told myself before I'm not going back but for whatever reason I decide today I was gonna go in and give them another shot... I went in looking for a scope for my 300 win mag I ended up purchasing a vortex scope and also picked up some Leupold rings and bases the wife was shopping so I figured I would have them install it so they could bore sight...(big mistake) the guy that installed my scope didn't look like he knew what he was doing should of been my first sign to just leave but I let him continue I walked away for 5 minutes to get some ammo and come back and he's beating and the rings to get them to move with a rubber mallet he ended up replacing them after I saw what he did when he was done I got my rifle and left didn't pay much attention got home wich is over an hour away for me and pull the rifle out and the scope is scratched badly he must of installed the scope and had to make adjustments and Instead of taking the rings off he just pulled the scope back causing scratches... I called basspro and they said I can return it which means I have to make another hour trek back up there I think this time I am done with basspro I will make the longer drive from now on to go to cables....ok I'm done venting lol....

I'd suggest returning the scope and rings, then check to see if Talley makes rings for your specific rifle to simplify the process. What area do you live in?

I was feeling lazy and let a buddy of mine put a scope he had just bought on at cabelas once..... Never again. they have no idea what they are doing there either. horribly obviously Canted scope, poor unevenly tightened rings. Same with archery equipment work.

Leupold rings and bases are about as simple as it gets and install is pretty straightforward so I don't know why they were having trouble.

Bass Pro can't afford a 1" wooden dowel to align scope rings.

The problem with a lot of the sporting goods places is they have kids that mean well, but don't know what they are doing working a lot of the counters. The pay is not very high, so you are not going to have an industry expert working the counter unless you get lucky and find a guy that is semi retired doing it to pick up extra cash and pass the time. The cabelas and Scheels in Billings MT were like that. Retired guys that had a lifetime of experience and enjoyed sharing it.

In the future, just mount and bore sight yourself. I can usually look through the bore with the bolt removed and have any scope a couple clicks from zeroed at 100 yards every time.

Use a 1" wooden dowel to align your rings.
