Big Browns Report post Posted September 7, 2015 We had another epic day of Dove hunting. We had 7 hunters with 7 limits after a few hours of shooting. That included 2 white wing limits by 6anut (Brian) & CouesPursuit(Shea). Everyone had a great time! I was very proud of my son Kyle. He made some Amazing shots! My nephew Thomas was able to shoot his first white wing. Great day!
DUG Report post Posted September 7, 2015 ^^^ Nice! We took the whole family out today. I think we took 46 birds between 5 of us. I had to give up the 28 to my girl so I shot my 391 today. We parked right near a bee hive but no issues with them.
khmer6 Report post Posted September 7, 2015 We went out Sunday. It was sad. Really dead. It looks like it rained the day before. 2 birds, with 6 really long shots. They definitely not where they have been the last few years. Finally had to change it up a bit this year after last year's epic fail :-)

johnnie blaze Report post Posted September 8, 2015 Had to change plans from our scouting spot....rain made it a freakin mud pull. But tried an old desert spot and it was money. Found the flight path to and from their feeding spot. Multiple peeps limiting out every day. Very few WW's, but didnt really matter. AM was low flying, fast n furious. PM was great flocks flying at a nice beat about 30' off the ground. But best of all.....we had it all to ourselves.

The dairy has been a blast but what you described is the classic dove action I love! Good score
lancetkenyon Report post Posted September 8, 2015 Went out Friday late morning, Saturday, Sunday, Monday mornings. Saturday was crazy busy. But Sunday had some beautiful photo opportunities early. Got a couple of my nephew waiting on the birds coming in. Got my brother ejecting a spent shell from my O/U. And my brother got me ejecting a couple empties from my daughter's O/U. And the obligatory tailgate photo. On a side note, when we left Saturday morning, the area we normally park at was spotless. When we arrived Sunday morning at 5:00AM, there were dove carcasses everywhere, along with over 100 empty shotshell hulls. I doubt the person who left this mess was a member here, but just in case, don't worry, I took some extra trash bags and cleaned up your mess for you. On my way out yesterday, I have a funny feeling that the same scenario is going to have been replayed with at least two groups I passed. Birds laying EVERYWHERE, and one group was not even picking theirs up. Empties all over the place too. This looks really bad on all hunters, and a good way to get farmland and/or private property closed for the future seasons.

lancetkenyon Report post Posted September 8, 2015 What was good was my nephew has gone out a couple times with me this year with his Dad present, and been blasting away at birds, shooting something like 125-150 rounds a trip, and only getting about 10 birds. Well, I got to spend some one-on-one time with him on Sunday morning and got him dialed in on shooting the birds. First, he was shooting at birds out there at 50-80 yards. I broke him of that habit first, and that really dropped his shot count. Getting him to wait for birds at 35 yards and in, and then watching his wads, and seeing he was blowing tail feathers off, adjusted his lead a bit. Once we got that settled, his bird to shot ratio climbed from 8-10% to about 50%. He was having a much better time after that.
PRDATR Report post Posted September 8, 2015 I would have said something to them about reminding them to pick up their shells and birds, but then I have a big mouth. LOL Thanks for keeping the place clean.
lancetkenyon Report post Posted September 8, 2015 I don't know who it was. They came after we left on Saturday. HogHunter texted me to ask about it Sunday night. I am sure you saw the mess I was talking about. I would have picked everything up on Sunday morning, but I did not have any trash bags with me, and I really didn't want to throw the loose carcasses in the bed of my truck. But all good now. I even stopped one of the farm hands and talked to him about it briefly yesterday morning.
stanley Report post Posted September 8, 2015 That sucks about the mess out there, Lance! Given the limited access and the real privilege it is to have the right to hunt at that dairy, it baffles me that anyone would be so lazy and ignorant as to leave a mess like that. My group and I ended-up hunting there early last Friday morning. We then spent the weekend at a different dairy that a mutual friend owns a little further West (of course slayed them there, too.... ). I'm glad that you and your crew had some great days of hunting out there! No more dove hunting for me this season, as I'm heading out tomorrow for a week in the forest with an archery bull tag in my pocket. LOTS of bacon wrapped dove will be grilled at elk camp this year though! S. PS: GREAT pics!!!

I was pretty shocked to see that mess but then recalled that 1 group of guys shooting every direction and quickly the shock wore off. I had bags when I saw it but was scared of the ants and discarded cows... :] The unwise shooters that were shooting dove every direction clearly don't know what a wad is or just don't care where they land.
