muleskinner Report post Posted June 7, 2015 New Mexico game and fish have reported 2 incidents involving aggressive bears in the last 7-10 days. Both happened within 15 miles of each other, so I suppose it could have been the same bear in both cases. The first incident ended up with a shed hunter getting chewed up. My daughter-in-law took care of him in the hospital. Nothing real critical. The second incident ended up with another shed hunter shooting and killing a mature female that made a run at him. Ruled justifiable by game and fish. Very rare behaviour for our bear population in southern New Mexico.
Swivelhead Report post Posted June 7, 2015 The bears in question, were they habituated to people or "boonie" bears?
PRDATR Report post Posted June 7, 2015 No cubs around? I had a big one charge my truck last year when I was coming off the rez into Eagle Creek. I was glad to be driving and not walking.

.270 Report post Posted June 8, 2015 folks think yogi is real. with bears, aggressive generally = hungry. every time a bear acts like a bear they call em aggressive. no, they just wanna eat. the deal with the horn hunter gettin' chowed on is kinda odd. not often a non-welfare bear tries to eat somebody. .270 Report post Posted June 9, 2015 yeah, .30/30's and 9mm's. totally unethical to use either. they don't kill things dead enough. Lark.
208muley Report post Posted June 9, 2015 I used the butt of a 30/30 to squash a mouse in camp once. My 9mm makes a great paper weight in my office and intimidates the heck out of people coming to complain about something!!! So I disagree, they both have uses!!!!
