Horizontal versus Vertical

I'm wanting to upgrade my sights on my bow. I have a basic horizontal sight (bottom of the line). I've been looking at the trophy ridge vertical sights. Does anybody have these sights? Whats your opinion with Horizontal vs Vertical, Pros vs Cons with these style of sights.

to me its just a personal preference....I own the trophy ridge vertical sight 5 pin. I love it....plus it has an easy adjust where you dont have to use any tools....the only thing is I dont think I can add more pins to it...but otherwise like I said its going to be mostly what you prefer

I have always used the horizontal pins, and prefer the fine 0.019" fibers. I have not used the Trophy Ridge, but can envision trying to pick a pot with one of the center pins and have the shaft of the pins above and below surronding the pin. I would be looking at and only seeing two sides of the pin, as opposed to three with a horizontal setup. I have not had a problem with the horizontal pins covering too much target as the trophy ridge ad implies.

 

I have replaced all red and yellow with the green fiber on my Montana Black Gold sight, as I see them better in failing light. I have not had a problem seeing the pin at last light, just the target, so cannot personally see a need for long wrapped fibers. Some say they can be too bright in daylight and the resulting halo makes for difficult pinpointing.

I was thinking along the same lines as Rabbit. It seems like when you got down to the 40 yard pin or so it may be a little harder to get a good sight picture. As well as shooting through a small opening like shrubs. Just my opinion though, and I have thought about putting on my bow.

I use the vertical HHA T-250 Triple Threat and love it. You can customize the sight pins just the way you want them, and then they cannot be moved/knocked loose. Plus, you cant beat it for the price. I have never had any trouble seeing my target with the vertical setup.

I switched to the vertical a couple years ago, and I love them. I also have the trophy ridge Matrix and prefer the ease of sighting and moving the pins if you switch to different arrows. Plus you can see much more of the animal when sighting. David

If you are focusing on the target and not the pin, as most top shootsersagree you should be, you don't even see the vertical post. It is as though the dots are floating in air. I have the Trophy Ridge Matrix. I really like it. I never thought a site could make much of a difference, they all do the same thing, but I have noticed improvement since switching.

I really thing it is a personal choice...I started with the matrix but on a experiment I tried the spot-hoggs... and I personally thing the spot-hogg is a better sight for me.

I have always liked horiz. pins rather than vert. ones. i have never shot a vert, but they seem they would get in the way.

The one thing I really don't like is having ANYTHING on my bow that is EASY to adjust!! I don't like the fact the pins can be easily adjusted.......what happens if a branch snags the lever? If it has flimsy or EXTRA components......it's more susceptable to breakage or accidental adjusting or coming loose! I would stay away from anything that is plastic, or has a bunch of little gadgets or components that really aren't necessary while out in the field. The Spot Hogg sights are ( my opinion ) the most dependable and rugged sight available........no plastic levers or pins, and all the adjustment components are very solid and dependable. I really like the vertical wire on the Spot Hoggs as well.......got hooked on that years ago with the Fine-Line sights. Good luck, JIM>

I switched to a vertical one pin sight made by Sightmaster and I love it!!! My 2 buddies showed me the sight and it is sweet. You can only order them online and are not sold in stores they are out of montana if I remember right. But the pin can be moved from 15 to 100 yards in a snap. Very rugged construction also. I will never shoot anything else now. Way way easier than looking through side mounted sight. Anyway my 2 cents

I have a friend who has the trophy ridge sight and the pins moved on him a few times. That was when the sight first came out.O therwise he likes the sight. I have my eye on the g5 sight I'll have to check more into it before I get one for 150.00 bucks.

the Matrix is the best sight I have ever owned, I only wish Trophy Ridge would make a 7 pin sight. I have emailed the company to ask about it but never heard back. Right now I shoot the Spot Hogg 7 deadly pins but dont like it as well as the Matrix.
