Lance Report post Posted May 18, 2007 So there I was just waiting for eather Tines or Younghunter to show up so we could go kill some turkeys in unit 8. Well, Tines showed up first and we went out on Monday. We located two toms in their roost before light and mooved in. We sat up the deaks and the video camera and got them all worked up! The first bird came out of the roost and came right in strutting the whole way! It was as textbook as it gets! we were done by 5:30 AM!
Lance Report post Posted May 18, 2007 This is the "Oh, you want me to put my fan down and stick my head up" pose We were much obliged
Lance Report post Posted May 18, 2007 After the tom stuck his head up and lowered his fan ever so nicely for us. This is when Jake touched off the trigger I swear the report of the shotgun echoed for 30 seconds or more!
Lance Report post Posted May 18, 2007 He had a 9 1/4" beard and big spurs! Congrats Jake! Younghunter did show up on Wednesday and we got into some good action with several birds but were not able to close the deal. But I'll let him tell that story if he wants. stanley Report post Posted May 18, 2007 Outstanding pics Lance! Thanks much for sharing. Hey Christian, have you ever been spring turkey hunting before this? What an absolute blast it is, huh??? I went for the first time 4 years ago, and I definitely fell in love with it. Nice to be out hunting in the late spring, as opposed to just dreaming about it as well! Congrats on the success guys! S. Lance Report post Posted May 18, 2007 We found where the birds were roosting! There is a handfull of huge pines and each has about 2" deap of turkey droppings under the trees! I have never seen roosts that were used so much!!! Younghunter and I hung out there in the evening but aparently they don't hang there every night. And if we ever found them there in the morning again we maped out a spot that we could sneek right up to the spot where they land after comming out of the roost! Oh well, just more antisipation for next year! Thanks for the comments! And thanks for letting me tag along guys! Lance
Tines Report post Posted May 18, 2007 I must say that I had a great time. I've been extremely busy over the last 6 months and had 1 day to do it all. I figured if anyone could get me on a bird first thing in the morning it would be Lance. He did just that! I figured since Lance's son and a couple of friends came down and shot all my big coues deer last year I'd return the favor and try to put a dent in their turkey population a bit ; ) Thanks again Jake
