Not bad for a 14 year old!

Recommended Posts

No smoke & mirrors... legit 10 foot rim. Lots of hard work is paying off. Only 14 years old, 6'4" tall and still growing, just finished the 8th grade and loves to play ball. Sorry I just had to brag on my son!

Really impressive, I am 6'4" and it took me until I was 18 to be able to dunk. Can't even imagine the vertical he will have if he keeps working at it.

Nice!!! He's got some serious spring! 6'4" at 14 - and still growing? And I thought my boys were tall - lol.

Thanks everyone! No football for this kid. He just started summer workouts for the highschool team here in Prescott Valley. He also plays for a traveling team which practices 3 nights a week and competes in tournaments (4-6 games) in Phoenix every other weekend. Plus he's signed up for 5 different training camps this summer. I made a deal with him that if he keeps his grades up he could play all the hoops he wants. As a parent of three boys that play sports I can honestly say that watching them play is one of my favorite things to do in life!

Get with his high school counselors now and map out a four year plan to make sure his eligibility equals his talent when he graduates. Don't accep them just saying that he will get the correct classes, demand to see his academic plan charted out on the NCAA clearinghouse work sheet. I have some experience in this area and have seen students and families have to scramble their junior and senior years to be eligible even though the kid received top grades in every class taken. In particular, ask to see their clearinghouse certification on the lab science courses...this area seems to cause more problems than any other. Classes that many high schools consider lab sciences, do not meet the NCAA definition.

Enjoy the next four years, you will love them, and they will fly by so fast.

Thx Pine Donkey. "Eligibility = talent" never heard it put that way. I had never thought of any of that but my wife and I will schedule a meeting with Kade's counselors once the school year starts. His goal is to earn a D1 scholarship so it makes sense that we make sure he's on track academically... thx!

Nice!! Does he play any club ball??. My son is 13 and does a lot of club basketball / AAU tournaments and games..You should look into that give your son a lot of exposure and its always good to play with some of the best basketball players in the state.

I love this post! Brag all day long. I think that it is great that he has the support of his parents for what he loves to do. I was a basketball nut in high school, but my dad didn't think there was any value in the summer camps. I never got to go to any of them. I played on an undefeated junior varsity team as a sophomore at Mountain View in Mesa. My junior year I missed the varsity team by two spots. That team finished ranked 7th in the country by USA Today. I now have 3 boys of my own and I will support them 100% in whatever they decide they want to do. My 8 year old is a sports nut and is really excelling at soccer. I've had people that played professional soccer tell me that he has all the tools to go as far as he wants with it. This wasn't a club guy trying to sell me a club team membership either. Going to my kids sporting events is tops on my list of things I like to do. Tell your son to keep up the hard work and that we're cheering for him.

Phil, yes his traveling team is registered with all the different clubs and organizations down in Phx and we play tournaments every other week. In fact we just took 2nd in a pretty big event over Memorial day weekend! The level of talent is much better in Phx versus here in Prescott so it's really healthy for the team to play up!
